    Cool Hand Luke

I've seen it before and watched it again last night

Don't get me wrong, I think it's ok but I also think it's very over-rated

Nobody is all that likeable including Luke and the story really doesn't go anywhere or say anything

The future stars ensemble cast makes it worth a look though

^^ Caught it recently too, and agree… giving solid *mediocre rating* of 5/10 being most disappointed that the sci-fi/space elements were largely window dressing. That movie could have been set on Earth or anywhere, in any era, as just another Father/Son melancholy play.

I'll have to go looking for that. Sounds interesting. If you're interested, you might read 'Please Kill Me'. It's a fascinating oral history of the punk scene from the Velvets and MC5 to the Clash and Pistols.

    Kung Fu: The Invisible Fist

A 1972 movie that plays on Sino-Japanese tensions and the whole Kung Fu vs Karate thing. It's a decent watch though I think the final battle may have been a bit long. The last 16 minutes involve the main protagonist chasing the antagonist, stopping to trade blows, continue running, stopping to trade blows, keep running, stop to... you get it. I found it a bit humorous, also, that after fighting for about 10 minutes, the bad guy reveals he had a pair of tonfa under his shirt. After then kicking butt for a few minutes the good reveals he's had a pair of sai the entire time. - B-

I've been on a documentary kick recently, this past week I've watched:

    - Laurel Canyon -new two part doc on Epix (on Crave in Canada) about the SoCal music scene in the late 60's to early 70's, it covers the Byrds, Monkees, CSN, Joni Mitchell, etc. Really interesting.

    - Gilbert - really interesting doc on Gilbert Gottfried, whom I've always been a big fan of

    - Punk Revolution NYC - another great doc covering the NYC punk scene at the Mercer Art Center, Max's Kansas City, CBGB, etc, going through the Velvets, the NY Dolls, Television, the Ramones, Blondie, etc. Good doc with some great vintage footage.

Rating? I give them all two thumbs up.

Between my on-going-pandemic-bender of French and Japanese cinema, I'm diggin' on some documentaries too:

    American Masters – Basquiat (2018): 9/10
PBS continues to deliver quality work in the AM series. One of a few compelling Jean-Michel Basquiat docs in recent years. I've been considering a custom figure of his excellency too!

Memory – The Origins of Alien (2019): 9/10
If you dig the franchise, you can't help but enjoy the artful homage in this moody, deep dive into the making of.

    Bruce Lee 30 For 30 – Be Water (2020): 8/10
There's much classic content left out of ESPN's project, but it's a unique approach to the format and the intimate look into his childhood and family was excellent.

Not really, but depending on the province, there were periods of strong censorship. Here in Ontario, the Ontario Film Board was very strict towards gore and violence back in the 80's. I remember renting films like Day of the Dead and Re-Animator in that era, and the videos were hacked to shreds to the point of being nonsensical to watch. I used to have my cousin in the US "smuggle" uncut copies for me. Luckily, the Ontario Film Board lost most of its teeth years ago, so happily censorship like that is a thing of the past. (I think implied violence in porn is still a big no no here though, but with the internet it doesn't really matter)

Just watched "Mansion of the Doomed" (1976) starring Richard Basehart and Lance Henriksen

Can anybody explain why this movie was considered a "video nasty" in the UK ?

There's no nudity, gore isn't over the top and plot was mediocre.

(minimal spoiler) The only part of the plot that was disturbing was the attempted kidnapping of the little girl - which was foiled anyway.

    What Happened To Monday?

    It’s on Netflix.

I really dug it. Fun sci-fi flick. Set in a near-future dystopia where it is illegal to have more than one child due to overpopulation.

Well, septuplets are born and all hell breaks loose, lol.

Stars one of my favorite actresses, Noomi Rapance.

    Check it out!

rewatched Rise of Silver Surfer because it was on TV while I was working on documents.

I really disliked both FF movies and saw both at the theater and again on DVD.

I have to say that i dislike it less this time around. there are still problems with it, but the craptastic acting/writing for Doom is the only part I hated about it today.

The Ballad of Buster Scruggs (2018)

Worth it for the cinematography alone.

First story was the best imo

Sheryl Lee is gorgeous. the actors playing John and Paul were good. In fact I had not realized, until I looked it up, that the actor playing John was Prof. Quirrel, In the first Harry Potter movie
Heh, I was thinking of watching it again for that reason as well. I last saw it around 10 years ago and it still held up for me then.

Oh yeah, I remember when it first came out I specifically wanted to watch it because of this. "What, another Lovecraft film by the Re-Animator crew? Yes please!" It wasn't as good, but still a fun film, I need to rewatch it myself.

I started to watch Eli Roth's The Green Inferno last night, as I've never seen it and was in a mood for a cannibal film. I bailed out after the first 30 minutes, the acting was terrible, and there were no likable characters. Does it get better or did I dodge a bullet?
