It's not really a thrift store find, but close enough. I have a friend who owns a shop, mostly vintage clothing, but also a few scattered furniture pieces and such. She let me set out the last of my vintage clothing collection, and over the last few months, most of it sold. Instead of a check for the entire amount, I took this as part of my payment. I have always wanted one. Ed HATES it, but he has never had a sense of style.

That is really cool!!!! Who made that one? I picked up one a little bit similar made by Lux from the 1950s this past weekend. I like yours much better.Comment

This one is by Westclox. The winding spring is shot, but I think instead of paying $75 to fix it, I am going to gut it and drop in a kit clock. The original mechanism can be easily plucked out and I will, of course, save it in case I want to repair it down the road. Last night already, I re-arranged the games on the library wall and made room for the clock there. Just like it goes whenever I acquire something fabulous, I think about acquiring more of them. Just keep telling myself no clock collection, no clock collection, no clock collection.sigpicComment

Yeah, once you find something you really like it's so hard to not want to acquire more similar items. Since I picked up my starburst clock last week I've thought about trying to grab a kit kat or shmoo clock sometime.Comment

Oooh! A sunburst clock! I love those. One day, I'm gonna have me a retro house, w/ wood paneling, shag carpets, overstuffed furniture, and a sunburst clock!

This thread looks bored. )~(
Here's the few things I've found the past two weekends.
Craigs List score of all 4 Starcraft II figures. I shall sell off the boring human and robot, so henceforth the awesome alien and weird chick (two of my serious most wanted!) shall be frrrreeeeeeeeeee!!!
$1 DVDs, horror spooky pop-up book, .50 skull ice cream dish, $3 Indiana Jones playset, $2 Stay Puft...
...and I spent $12 on vintage Christmas stuff. DON'T JUDGE ME!!

Puffy would look great beside his big brother SDCC bank on my nightstand. That Santa is incredibly creepy looking. I would have bought that in a second. Almost has a Gerry Anderson marionette look to it.It's not a doll it's an action figure.Comment

They actually posted pics of the stuff on Craigs, he was in it (he's Kamar!), so I went to the sale all panicy thinking I was going to be beating out other vintage Christmas collectors. I was the only one.

I may have to kick myself in the butt. I found the first unofficial appearance of "Clifford the Big Red Dog" in a book from the late 50's. Norman Bridwell started drawing Clifford in the mid-60's. this book was from 1958. The book was called "How to care for your dog". It was a kids book, but the dog on the cover WAS Clifford, but regular size. The book was illustrated by Norman Bridwell.
Edit: I was wrong. The book was from 1964 and Clifford started in 1963. There a few copies on eBay for $10 eachLast edited by theantiquetiger; Aug 3, '13, 3:31 AM.sigpicComment

You know what I've found in the last two weekends?
ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.
The amount of competition is just too much in my area now. It's gotten to the point where some jerk(s) is constantly creating ads for fake sales. I fell for it twice already.
..and when I do finally find what I've been looking for, I've been getting the "gonna put it on eBay" nonsense. eBay print outs taped to items is becoming very common now (did some clown make a YouTube "tips" video?).
Last weekend I went to a good one. Asked the kid about older video games and I heard his father tell him: "there is a Nintendo upstairs but that is NOT to be touched. That is an ORIGINAL Nintendo system and I do not want it leaving that room. We can get more for it at a game store".
I asked the guy if he was sure he wanted to do that and told him I pay good prices. He said, "No, I'm taking to a game store". So I pulled out one of my new business cards and said, "I AM a video game store". Then he read it and asked me about old action figures. Pretty soon they were removing box after box after box of 1980s' GI JOE stuff. After wasting about 20 minutes of my time, they tell me they want to "research" and put it together first and I'd be the first they call. As I am going through the stuff, other idiots started to surround me and started sticking their hands in it all and asking the guy about it.
I went back and asked later (thought maybe they would be more willing). They said "it's all complete now" as they found more and it's "all there". Of course this moron had no idea what he was talking about and a lot of stuff was broken.
This is the crap I am dealing with lately.
It's funny how toys ended up strengthening my conviction about how sickening human beings are.Comment

Nothing earthshaking. Been picking up a few good odds and ends the past few weeks but not much toy related but found this today and while not many may appreciate it, I absolutely love it. Really fun little item that brings back great memories and reeks 1970s. A boxed Balafire Red Flicker Bulb. bulb is mint and I'll put it to good use and replace my old 1976 Bicentennial Flicker bulb I have in my 7 up flicker can lightThe best .75 cents I've spent in a long while. As a kid I used to stand in the 5th Ave Card Shop in the Mall and stare at these flicker lights until I was about blind.
