That's weird and reminds me of something...

Like 10-ish years ago I went into this old junk collectible store.

It looked like the general store from Little House

The guy had mostly junk -- best thing was a Campus Queen lunchbox

Anyway, when I was checking something out --- think I bought some Marx Presidents ... the old guy says "you want to look at some Klan stuff ?"

I was like ....... uhhh, ok ---- just to see what he had.

He pulled out some pinbacks of KKK and nazi logos... also some ww2 nazi medals

    I was like nahhhh.

It made me wonder why he would ask me that .... I didn't exact look like a skinhead ...... If anything I looked more like Brian Blessed as Volton

edited to add ... this place was in New Jersey

Same thing happened to me, I walked into an Antique store and there was a weird, handwritten note on the door. I managed to read "This is our country" before i walked in. The man was sitting in a rocking chair, had a thick slavic accent and was pretty hammered. He went on about "certain people need to go". It was a "Kids in the Hall" sketch come to life, I could not leave that place fast enough. I looked like Buddy Bradley at that point in my life, so I'm not sure where the "hey another racist!" vibe came from.

That's actually kinda funny - especially because he had a slavic accent

My sister and brother-in-law once ran a truck club called the Confederate Cruisers. They did a lot of community projects and helped out during emergencies like snow storms, floods etc. They could never get the town behind them for a big town-wide car show. I always thought their name held them back.

It seems odd that WB would have problems with the flag on the General now. But then they re-recorded all of Mammy Two-Shoes dialog in the old Tom and Jerry cartoons in the last decade or so, too...

When you are younger it is amazing what simple things could grow into. I was going to say young and Ignorant but I think a better word is young and Innocent of mind.
I was a teen and all it was was a cool car with a cool logo. Then all of a sudden one day it was everything bad that was associated with the Confederacy.
I grew up with a friend whos name was S.... S..... all thruought High School backin the 70's she would do the Double S's all over her school books... Who knew it it looked cool enough... Go 1 step further she was of Polish Decent... Completly innocent, I cant think of what might have happened to her today had that happened, Suspension, Expulsion,Ridicule....

Whats that song from Peter Pan... I won't grow up

I dig the Confederate flag on the General Lee...that's an iconic car...without it, like Jim said...it's just an old boring orange car.

If I had tons of cash to burn, I'd but that Dodge Charger with the flag...not without it.

OK, so the Confederacy had slaves...well...the Union took the land from Native-Americans.

So both sides are not that innocent.

So should be ban the American flag as well?

              That's what I thought...

Sounds like a marketing ploy to me. Good way to move a bunch of General Lee merch that isn't selling otherwise. "Best get that car now paw, they done removed the flag from duh rest of em', yeee-haw, I'm a rebel!"

Seriously, WB put out a Dukes of Hazard movie a few years ago where they had the main characters go in black face while riding around with the confederate flag on the roof of the car. This isn't about political correctness. Anyone who thinks so is truly being bamboozled.

I love the General Lee, it's an awesome ride as part of a awesomely cool TV show that's been off the air for decades. Who cares? If they were CGIing it to cover it up in the old show or something, then I'd be upset. This is a total non-issue. It probably has reached the point where Dukes merch ain't selling like it used to and it's now more trouble than it's worth. They've made this crap for 30 years, don't worry there will always be a supply of orange cars with Confederate flags on it.

You can't rewrite history, but that doesn't mean you should continue on making the same mistakes just because it's "tradition".

All they are really doing with this PC crap is making collector's items out of the car items with the flag a market for flag decals to complete the future ones without the flag.

Before we turn this into a southern/slavery/KKK debate, the General Lee is an iconic car (partially because of the flag), like the Barris Batmobile (can you imagine that without the ebam in the middle?), the Flintstones car, James Bonds Astin Martins, Herbie, The A-Team's black van and the DeLorean from BTTF to name but a few. Racism or hatred has nothing to do with any of this, so why turn the debate in that direction? It maes no sens what WB is doing. People watched the show for the stunts, not for the confederate flag * *

it's just one of those things that still bothers many....I honestly can careless, in fact when ever I do see it i think of Dukes ..If you happen to catch it down here it's just a redneck or something....but if they catch you with it in the wrong part of town it can get bad

I don't know how it is up North though, I'm guessing Cali,NY and Chicago are probably the same

If Warner Bros really wanted to keep a low profile they could have just replaced the rebel flag with the American flag and hoped not many people noticed.

Considering how many people buy the General Lee nowadays it would have went off without much fanfare

I think the Dukes is more popular than most of you realize. Obviously popular enough to still be merchandised. You still see the "01" shirts at Wal-mart, etc.

I guess we shouldn't be surprised. This is another example of corporate overthinking. Disney won't release "Song of the South" on DVD or Blu-Ray for the same reasons. One of the most popular attractions in Disney World (Splash Mountain) is based on those characters, but they won't put the movie out.
