I have owned a replica general lee for 8 years now. I have never had a bad encounter with anyone when i drive it around the city. i get thumbs up from everyone from every walk of life. It represents being a rebel not a biggot. My car is an homage to a tv series that i loved growing up as a kid, not as a statement of hate or discrimination.

Oakland is even more liberal than San Francisco...and it's the second most liberal city in the Bay Area (after Berkeley)...and I wouldn't have a problem riding the General Lee here...regular folks don't care...only the PC police does...and I don't mean the Oakland Police Department, lol.sigpicComment

There are a lot of salient points being made, but I think we're losing sight of the fact they're just some good old boys, never meaning no harm. I have to give them the benefit of the doubt, because despite displaying a potentially offensive symbol on their automobile, they're making their way the only way they know how.Comment

So I spent a few minutes looking around on Google news for the source of this story (which leads to a charming tour of various racist websites, ugh....) There's been no official announcement fromWarner Bros about this, the whole thing seems to be traceable to a post on HobbyTalk where some dude claims a rep told him this.
It could be true, but it could also be total internet BS.This profile is no longer active.Comment

I bought the car in 1993. It was a rusty beaten pos. i restored it in 1996. I replaced the floors, trunk, quarter panels etc. it is a numbers matching r/t with 440ci engine. In 2005 before the movie came out my wife gave me the green light to change it into the general lee for the movie premiere here in Omaha. I will probably keep i this way for a few more years then either sell it or restore back to original.Comment
