General lee flag ..... Gone !!!!

Warner Bros. says the General Lee will no longer be made with the flag. Here is an article.
Thought I'd pass this very interesting news break along to the collecting world. Per my Sales Rep at Tomy (ERTL/RC2/Learning Curve Etc) "Starting January 1, 2013 all Dukes of Hazzard General Lee vehicles will not be allowed to be produced with the Confederate Flag on the top of the vehicle...

If this is indeed the case, someone PLEASE help me stop this rock, I really want to get off. The General Lee without the Stars and Bars is just an orange car. Plus how could you call it the General without th eflag? That's it, to appease the modern generation he could go from the "General Lee" to the "Annoying Admiral Orange"

I just don't like the way this world is going gang in so many different facets. Well here's for hope that the Mayan's were right.

Looking at it from the other side the Conferderate Flag is a huge icon of some nasty things including slavery and the KKK --- so I can see why a big company like Warner would want to distance itself from that ...

IMO it would be better to just quietly not make anything of the General Lee anymore --- it's not all that popular nowadays anyway .........

I'm just wondering why the wait. They could have done this at any point in time.

Well, within the last few years there was talk - and actions of getting the Confederate Flag off state flags .... so i'm guessing this is just trickle down from that.

There's more to the Confederate Flag than slavery and KKK. It depends on who you ask as to what it represents.

Yep. To give in to only one view leads to continuing the spread of ignorance.

To be honest, to me it represents Southern Rock

Whenever I see it I think of Lynyrd Skynyd

I have no problem flying the Confederate Flag at home or on statre buildings, especially here in the South. I do have a problem when someone or some group tells me I need to remove it because it hurts their feelings.

I remember back in the day I had a summer job working at the local US Armory (In New Jersey)

We all loved Skynyrd so we all had "rebel flags"

One of my buds dared me to run it up the Armory flag pole

Of course I did (being a dumb kid)

One of the sergeants ran over and said --- take that thing down now, you want them to shoot you ? !!!!! LOL

                            Good times

Agreed but when those groups decide to tie themselves to the symbol, it becomes something of a messy situation and very real.

A few years ago a friend of mine went to Florida and bought a Confederate Flag at a flea market. The vendor whispered to him "I've got Klan flags in my car" which made him wonder if he needed a makeover.
