I watched it lasy night at midnight.I felt sorry for the collectors forced to give up parts of their collections, especially the Star Wars collection, but understand why they did it.My take on the show, it does not pay to be married if you are a collector,lol.

I didn't find it painful at all, and yes, I think BOTH of those people were a little off. Keep in mind, the Catwoman guy was buying toys before paying his bills. Sorry, but that is a harmful addiction.
Same with the Star Wars lady. When your collection overtakes your entire life, it's no longer just a hobby.
I know a guy EXACTLY like this named Greg. He puts toys before everything else in his life, and it cost him his marriage, his children, and all his friends. He lives in a house filled from floor to ceiling with boxes of toys, with literally only a path to get through. He sleeps on one corner of his bed. Everything else is covered. He eats out every meal because his entire kitchen, including his non-working fridge is filled with toys. It's all neat and organized, so it's not like he's a hoarder living in squalor, but geez man, there's more to life.
He doesn't think he has a problem though.

That was exactly how I felt. On a side note the dealer didn't give a price at all for that smdn and mego stuff. He would have done way better on ebay.

We all know a lot of collectors, but TV has a way of editing things look even worse for dramatic effect.
I had a hard time watching the show because
A) I found the host (Elyse Luray) to be a bit condescending.
B) I had a hard time believing her when she tried to show her expertise on grading comics and toys.
C) The negativity really festered and made for a tense hour of watching.
(not to mention all the market saturated crap people seemed to have accumulated)

The 'expert' toy dealer at the toy shop. It was like watching the Kevin Smith reality show all over again.
Never seen one of these fly away hulks before...
But It took me just a minute to locate one.

Really? I don't know a comic shop that would not consult online before figuring current prices.
Does NO ONE know about ebay, or even selling things in any semblance of an orchestrated manner.
These shows tend to depict people selling under the worst conditions to maximize drama. Sell EVERYTHING. Sell it NOW.

My wife has no love for my collection, but even SHE felt empathy for the collectors in the end.

It seems to be Syfy's m.o. for these types of shows. Hollywood Collector is almost the same way.

I walked in expecting to HATE it but it wasn't a train wreck . The host isn't down on collecting and the people aren't as in crisis mode like "hoarders", I mean a tidy home of Star Wars toys is easier to take than a basement full of dead cats. The SW lady was a bit of a kook but she's totally harmless and in a healthy space.

Things that need to change:

1) The manufactured drama, three teasers that amounted to clever editing. There was no drama, why make it like it is?

2) The host seems to know her stuff, why did she take that guy to a moron dealer for a crappy low ball offer? That guy had never seen a farily common Mego, which destroys his credibility. That was bad advice and he could have easily gotten more for his collection through Ebay or setting up at a toyshow.

Host is annoying. Sick of all these ego driven "experts" on TV. I've had people tell me to sell my stuff and I get VIOLENT when people tell me what I should or shouldn't do with my stuff.

Anyone else find it weird they didn't bring up the Fantastic Four figure with the Catwoman collector? I mean was the Mego version or the Pin Pin version?

My bad, I started another thread before seeing this one. Maybe next time I'll actually use that nice search box right in front of my face.

Anyway, as I noted before, I like this show. Sure it has manufactured drama, it's TV, and of course ebay is a better route to sell stuff than a dealer or flea market, but watching someone sell stuff on ebay would be like watching paint dry.

I like to see the collections people have, learn why they have it, and see the displays, and I'll take the drama and pushing to these poor *******s to sell in exchange. There's some of these guys in all of us, and that makes it interesting to me.

The show for me has it's moments. I do hate the manufactured drama and the low ball offers on some of the collectors best pieces. I have enjoyed seeing the collections however. I do agree the Star Wars woman was pretty pathetic. And one thing my wife always tells me, She has no trouble with my collecting as long as i can display something and enjoy it. But she does not like the stuff i have to keep in boxes, cause we have no room. Talking about my over 700 wrestling figures i have, From every line ever produced. I have sold some over the last couple of years as it was over 1,000 at one point.

I think there was something much deeper going on with the Star Wars gal. She mentioned her childhood, and being a loner, but I wouldn't be surprised if she had suffered some kind of abuse.

I kinda like the host, in so much as she does get the point of these kinds of collections, and doesn't think the people are nutbags because they collect toys. I'm sure there are much more qualified people out there that could do this, but they probably ain't as good lookin'.

I too was thrown by the comments on the 12" Hulk. I turned to my wife and said, "It's not really that rare."

I was irritated that the host kept taking the collectors to retailors to sell their collections.... You know they will low ball you, they have to if they expect to make any money, and thats why they are in business. I would never go to a comic book store to sell any of my stuff, thats like going to a pawn shop for crying out loud.

UGH! I just watched the Barbie collection episode, where they tried to force the woman to sell a super rare peice for cheap. It broke my heart and I screamed at the TV " tell them NO!!" The collector came in and tried to cherry pick the hot piece.....I hate guys like that.

I got some behind-the-scenes info on this show, as I know of at least 3 people who were in talks to be on it.

In order to be on it, you HAVE to agree to sell items. They also talk the other person (wife, girlfriend, husband, etc.) to say bad things about the collector.

My belief about this show is the same for Toy Hunter. It's all an elaborate attempt to get good stuff.

All the dealers are friends of the host, if you notice.
