Derek was the first person to befriend me on this site. He's a great and caring guy. I would definately be up to someone collecting money for him. I'd definately donate.

The scenario is overwhelming Paul and its a shame such horrid things have to
happen to such apparently sweet people. My sympathies to Derek and his
        family.

I was thinking about him the other day. I knew his wifes prognosis did not look good.

After a few e-mails Derek and I discovered we both grew up in the same town (Huntsville). Its a wonder our paths never crossed growing up.

If there is a paypal address to send a donation please post it. I'll be more than happy to help.

I'd galdly chip in. Are there things that Derek needs like a cleaning service? Anything to make his day to day life easier.

Very sad news. I will also be glad to donate.

Losing a spouse like that is devastating, and I really feel for him.

I am heartened to see so many people offer to assist. I posted from the heart and haven't quite figured out how to organize the donations, but given the reactions, I think I will post an email to donate to this weekend, and will also offer an address to collect any donations via snail mail.

I don't know exactly what he and his family might need, although I'm sure it is a lot. I did find the email that his wife (Kim) sent to me a couple of years ago, and she indicated their families were very close, which is what they need the most right now.

As far as toys, I can only offer Megos, which will probably be appreciated by at least a couple of his kids, and of course Derek himself. I have quite a large number of single figures in overstock, which I will be sorting through over the next couple of weeks to put together a large box of them with a wide selection. Maybe after we get through this initial wave of immediate support, I will talk to Derek and see what they could use as a family, but I don't know if this is the appropriate time. Bless you all for your show of support.

Is there anyone in the same area as him who might be able to front a few quickie gifts in the mail to get there in the next day or 2 and then get reimbursed by the eventual fund.

I read this post last night and was at a loss for words. I lost a parent at a young age and I know how difficult it is. I will check this post again for information regarding donations.

                              My condolences to the family.

I didn't know Derek but this is really sad for him and his 3 small children. I would be willing to donate too.
