I called Derek this afternoon and had a good, although brief, conversation with him. He and his family were celebrating his youngest's 4th birthday. He was most appreciative that we were moved by this event. I told him that the thread had received a lot of views and responses. I told him that "a couple of us" wanted to send some paypal to help out a bit. He doesn't have a paypal account, but the good thing is any email address can receive paypal, and he said the address he sent me the email from would be fine to use. Here si that information for anyone that would like to send something his way.

    Derek Moore

    Email / Paypal address:

    [email protected]

I asked him to also let me know what Mego figures he had to sell off, since a few of you have asked if they could help replace some of those figures for him. I will post that list, and maybe a few things that his kids do not get under the christmas tree if people would prefer to contribute directly in that manner.

Also, if anyone would like to send a donation via snail mail, I will accept those at my address and forward those on as either paypal or as a collective check. Please PM or email me what you are sending to my mailing address so I can keep an eye out for it.

    email: [email protected]

I just started the ball rolling with a $100 to his paypal address. Here is how I sent it if people were wondering how to go about it.

I chose the SEND MONEY Tab.
    I input $100
    I selected Service/Other
I put the SUNJECT as "Mego Museum Donation from Hulk" to help him identify it.
I wrote a little personal in the MESSAGE area.
    I pressed SEND MONEY.
    Paypal confirmed it.
I felt better about it than any recent purchase.

Again, I am not suggesting any amount, this is just what I felt comfortable doing. I think $5 and $10 donations will also help and add up quickly. If you can't do that, I know from talking to him that even an email reaching out to express your condolences will mean the world to him.

My wife received a $50 Gift Card to Barnes and Noble from her team at work. She came home and asked if I thought it would be appropriate to send it to him for the kids. I almost cried. If that is a way people would like to help, then by all means, I think that would be wonderful. Feel free to think out of the box as some of you already have.

Thank you all for your responses to this thread, I am inspired by all of you.

All he will have to do is register his email account with paypal and the money will be there.

I will be communicating with him more about toys for his kids and the Megos he sold off, and will post that information in the coming days, along with ways to send those kinds of donations to him. I didn't want to overwhelm him all at once, especially since he was busy with his family. Thanks again.

Cash sent, lmk if there is anything else. Gift cards are a good idea, too. Like from Walmart or Publix would probably help him a bunch.

It seems inadequate to say but I am deeply sorry for his loss. I'm in for helping too - if you get a list of what figures he had to sell I would like to replace one.

Paul's point about having a spouse carry you through thick and thin comes very close to home. My grandfather suffered for almost 15 years with ALS before dying in 1979, and in the years since my grandmother has had to contend with a triple heart bypass and breast cancer (twice). My parents both have some degenerative ailments as well, but they are strong in their love for each other and it carries them through. We are always there for them, but nothing really replaces the love and care of an adamant spouse.

I need to go and hug my wife now.

I sent him a Paypal gift. I hope it can help with Christmas shopping a little. I'd like to send him a nice starter set of Megos soon. If I ever get a day off I'll get them out.
