That fish & chip image was a stock photo.
There's a Chinese/British eatery in nearby Emeryville Market called The Crispy Fry...they are known for authentic English fish & chips...for $8.99...they serve you a gigantic portion of four huge pieces of fried battered fish...and about a pound of chips (fries)...it's really an artery-clogger of a meal...the serving is so big in fact...that I didn't finish it...here are my leftovers that I brought home in a doggie bag...

Well...Being in Mexico DOES have benefits! I have my own chef that makes anything I want because of me owning my Monster Cafe. Also exercise equipment is CHEAP to make down here so I make whatever gadget I see on TV for a fraction of the cost. So far I have the climbing machine and the Jean Claude Van Damme stretching machine all made with sturdy metal. Not the cheapo aluminom crap that is the actual product.
Also we are saving up for a Kangan water machine, an Ionic Footbath, and other goodies. Slowly my gym is coming together.Comment

Once it gets a little warmer, it will be easier to burn some calories, because I'll be gardening. Digging and lifting those bags of mulch will do me some good - I'm always wiped out after an afternoon of that.
The problem with a lot of outdoor activities is, I want to drop a little weight before I start doing them.Hey! Where's the waiter with the water for my daughter?

I found that to be true in my own experience. What I'm really struggling with right now is returning to activities I previously excelled at, in what I perceive to be a diminished capacity.
I just have to bit the bullet and start the hard stuff so the summer months outside are a joy rather than a disappointment. My former teammates are building their endurance right now with plyometrics and seemingly endless Long Slow Distance indoors, cross training on x-country skis and ice skates.
Meanwhile, I'm dreading the thought of squeezing into a skinsuit because I'll just look like a stuffed sausage. Baggy cycling jerseys for the time being.
Now is the time to start preparing for a come-back.
Yesterday I got on the stationary bike for an hour and fifteen minutes. Set it for an easy gear with the intention of spinning out my legs from the light weights I had done the previous day. The Goal for the short term will be Long Slow Distance to build an endurance base. I watched the new episode of House and played a few games of Angry Birds, so the time passed easily.
I'm going to focus on endurance and ultra-distance as a long goal for the spring/summer/fall, and accept that at my age sprints are more injury-prone than beneficial.
Did okay on the eating yesterday... dinner was at a reasonable hour and I had a proper portion of cheese-less whole grain pizza loaded with Veggies and tandoori sauce. The only "bad" was that I drank half a chocolate malt for lunch, leftover from my trip to Apache Burger on Sunday on the way home from the dog park/toy show/gym. Moderation and forgiveness.
Today I'm going to try and front-load right away.Comment

Not finishing it is a good step Hector! I would not have been able to stop myself from eating it all in one go.
Try and eat the rest during the daytime and not at night. Enjoy!

Anyone have any suggestions for fun activities for those of us who live in the snowy climes (and don't like the cold?).Comment

Got on the bike for an hour at noon. Easy gear.
Did light weights tonight, but didn't get through the entire workout, skipped lunges to save my legs for tomorrow morning's class.
On the whole, ate well, indulged myself with a little bit of veg curry for lunch with my tabouli salad.Comment

Unfortunately, I'm not a big outdoor activities person. The garden was just something I started doing because my mom kept offering me plants and it was fun to talk about it with her. After a while, I really got into it, especially seeing the results of my work. I don't really like playing a lot of sports, because to put it bluntly, running hurts. I want to get a bike, but I haven't started shopping yet. My husband bought a basketball - once in a while we meet up with his sister and her husband to play.Hey! I'm trying. Not going to post my weight here it's too embarrassing. But I'm with you in spirit Ed...suffice to say I have lost 6 kilograms since I got back to Aus, and just got some new tyres for my bicycle yesterday.Last edited by SlipperyLilSuckers; Apr 5, '11, 6:47 AM.Comment

I thought I'd be really sore and tired teaching my class today, but a surprising number of people showed up (is it March Break?) so they really energized me. I have one participant who's stuck with me since the big influx that arrived in January (and always inevitably goes away), and she brought a friend, which was gratifying. Being overweight, I always worry about what a lousy role model I am... although a while back I met a guy in my region who teaches cycling and he's about 300 pounds. I guess we find our inspiration in different ways to the best of our ability.
Today is the day I get to indulge (theoretically once a week)... we usually stop by Fat ******* Burrito on the way to our dog's agility class. They have deep fried Mars Bars. I guess I should count walking the dog and the agility training as physical activity for me... it all adds up right?
I only had a green smoothie when I woke up, but I did eat the rest of my tobouli salad for lunch.
I also had a Yop, for those who are not lactose intolerant, and looking for alternatives to pop or juice. They are sweetened, but the small bottles are a controlled quantity. I got into a habit of drinking these when I was in mexico because I just couldn't stomach beans and tortillas every single day at the training camp. South American and Mexican athletes are very inspiring because they perform on a grassroots level without all the fancy gear and ridiculous sports nutrition we're sold in the US and Canada.Comment
