Well, today at work I sent out an e-mail to all employees in my facility announcing our Biggest Loser contest. I'm just about 200 lbs, the most I've ever weighed, and my goal is to lose 30 lbs in 10 weeks starting on 4/7. I proposed the Loser idea to HR, and they were very supportive and cool about it. People have started signing up, so it's a 'go.'

However, the Meet will be on the weekend before my final weigh-in...meaning I'll have to watch the calories (booze, sloppy joes, steak...).

I calculate that I'll have to run a daily calorie deficit of about 1500, which may be too aggressive, but we'll see how it goes. Cutting out candy, soda and misc snacks should get me at least 1/2 way there.

So, if you go to the meet and see someone in decent shape, who is not wearing a Flash costume, and who appears to be ticked off at the world, yeah - that's probably me.

As long as you don't go over certain calories a day...plus physical activity...you can certainly eat steak without guilt. A cheeseburger is much worse than a stand-alone steak of the same portion...the steak by itself is just that...a piece of meat...but the cheeseburger on the other hand is meat (ground beef, sometimes processed), mayo, bread, and cheese...is loaded with carbohydrates. All natural unprocessed beef by itself...has zero carbohydrates.

Grilling a steak is best...but if you must use a skillet...use a little bit of olive oil (don't use extra virgin, it burns too easily).

Unless you eat 72 oz. Big Texan steak that is...it might have no carbohydrates...but tons of calories...

Yes...that's ground beef with sweet sauce...and a breaded bun...it's packed with calories and carbohydrates.

Eat a stand-alone steak instead...just make it a small portion...

I started gaining weight after I left the nursing facility in 2005...the lack of mobility was a big problem...my legs are still kinda weak...but I gotta get my fat *** going again...I remember the good 'ol days...I used to play basketball everyday, lift weights, used to spar boxing a lot...and was in a softball league.

            I can't no longer do those things...but I can walk...so I'm gonna start walking a lot now.

This thread has been kinda of an inspiration to me...yes...even Mego Superboy Prime's picture...lol...

Ran around the agility course with the dog this afternoon. Got on the bike to spin out the legs for an hour. Dinner is rice and chicken.

I will see you at 170 at Mego Meet Duncan - but don't put too much emphasis on the pounds. If you put better food in you and do regular exercise you will be healthier regardless of what the scale says.

Yeah, I know. I actually put on the weight while playing hockey and eating healthy food...lots of healthy food.

Just came back from doing weights. Still keeping them light while I get used to my increased regimen. Feeling a bit frustrated at comparing what I used to be able to handle, but it's just time and discipline to get back there.

Cold weather makes it tough for me to leave the house... luckily there is one gym close by where I can do mid afternoon fitness classes on weekends. Yesterday I made it in time to do two hours on the bike before they closed. Taught my class on Friday.

Doing pretty good with fueling up for the endurance workouts. Lots of whole grain options... Flax Bread, whole grain pizza crust, pitas etc. Yesterday I let myself have a tin of pop with dinner. Mostly been drinking smoothies.

You can fix that problem: Don't live in Canada.

                            ^^^

What other country would take me? I'm even afraid of crossing the border with the wife now that she's declared war on the rogue state of Boston after that hit on her beloved Habs.

Work blew up this week. Two all nighters with sporadic naps and lots of fast food... and it's not always easy to recover from that anymore as I get older. Monday was a full rest day, and I opted to stretch everything out at Yoga yesterday followed by a half hour on the bike. Taught my class this morning and then I'm going to sleep for a week before getting back into the routine.

I'm still having trouble recovering from all nighters. Feeling tired. Dragged myself to the gym at around 8:00 last night and did light weights. Taught my class today. I'm thinking tomorrow would probably be best as a full rest day. We'll see how sore or tired I am tomorrow. Been getting a lot of extra sleep.

Thanks Ed I actually meant to say Kilograms (about 14 pounds) ... my mind must be still back in the States!

Good on you! I am really proud of you keeping at it.

Brue, I find your story really inspirational.

So, how is everyone going on their health kicks?

I have wavered a bit since my back went out, but as soon as physiotherapy gets it back in place I am going to begin again.

I feel so uncomfortable with all this extra weight.
