Your never too old to rock n roll or listen to heavy metal IMHO. You are really only as old as you feel. If I took everything that random strangers say I should or should not do to heart then I would be living my life as miserable as they are.

Instead I choose to live life on my terms and not someone elses. That is why I am living life XXXlarge baby! Read all about it!

A fine example of this for me is some folks tend to want to whisper behind my back when they see me wearing my big gold chains and nice Armani suits or see the hottie piece of eye candy that I have hanging on my arm. I just look at them and laugh as I know that they are really just jealous of my $ucce$$. Besides I know for a fact that I can still out mosh them in a mosh pit any day!
Enjoy what you like, and let others enjoy what they like. (C) Azrak 2009

Apart from a few newer bands like Queens of the Stone Age and Amon Amarth, I'm pretty much an 80s metal guy, having grown up then. I imagine I always will be. What's weird is when younger people try to tell me f.ex. that The Scorpions or Motley Crue aren't metal. That's like saying Flatt & Scruggs aren't bluegrass because they don't sound like Alison Krauss.

I was at a light last week rocking some Styx in the ol' Town & Country, and I happened to glance over at a 20-something professional looking woman who was looking at me like I was a freak. I pretended she wasn't there and continued to enjoy Tommy Shaw on vocals, but I felt kind of stupid.

Ok I gotta reply to this one.
I just turned 37. I am into heavy, black, death, thrash, doom, METAL!!
I have into metal since I was about 8 with bands such as Kiss, ac/dc, Sabbath (im still a big fan of all these bands) and always got into the next heavy thing which lead to my progression to Death and Black Metal.
I still go to as many Underground shows as I can. I was just at EXODUS last week and Ive been a fan of theres since "Bonded By Blood". I saw them 22 years ago and here I am so many years later going to see them. I go to many Metal shows and have played in bands, toured, etc. Most of my peers as well as bands I was in or into are long gone BUT I STILL STAND!!
Ive had ex girlfriends try to change me and get me into CRAP like korn, godsmack etc saying its more appropriate for my age to lisen to "mainstream" garbage. Thats why there my EX!
Well guess what Im still into it as much as I was when I was a kid. I mean yea I lisen to other forms of music at times but I always go back to Metal.
I like feel and agression of the music gives me that natural high. Not cause Im "angry".
I could go on and on about this subject.
Note:THOSE THAT SAY "I USED TO BE INTO THAT WHEN I WAS YOUNGER" WHERE NEVER INTO IT IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!!!
yea people's taste change I understand don't get me wrong HOWEVER music is not a "Teenage Phase" if you were really into it. Like our Megos!!!
I wanna make a shirt that says-
                        Front: Metalhead Since (Insert year)
                        Back: TEENAGE PHASE MY ***!!!

As I said i could go on and on about this!

Those years were what I always consider to be "turnaround years". There seemed to be a real change in musical sensibilities. The now dated Eighties sound went the way of the dinosaur and bands like these took over. And it all happened so fast.

Maybe that's why it doesn't seem so long ago because this sound is Timeless. It defies categorization into an era -- like many great Rock songs/bands.

Those were the Autumn days of my youth. After that Music just didn't move me like it did in my younger years. I saw Nirvana at a local Club back in 1991, just before Nevermind was released. Shortly thereafter the Concert and Club Scene grew tedious. SNFU had gotten back together and did a retrospective tour. I went. I had some mutual friends with the Belke brothers and was asked in front of Brent how the concert was. I hesitated. Our mutual friend then said: "It sucked, right?" I agreed and said "I guess I'm getting old. I prefer the Wheat Chiefs."

Is this really an age related scenario?

I mean, if you were TWENTY and were doing the same thing,
would she have given you the ol' "thumbs up"?

Don't ever let someone else tell you what you can or can't do no matter your age. That's pure BS!! Maggy and I go to a lot of concerts and in the last half dozen years I have seen Korn (5 times), Motorhead (3 times), Cradle of Filth, Manson, Rob Zombie, Otep, Type O Negative, Soulfly, Judas Priest, Slipknot (4 times), Ozzfest a few times, Mehem Tour this summer, The Sex Pistols, Slayer, and many, many more. Some of those on the list I have seen more then once too.

I save almost all of my ticket stubs and usually put them in the jewel case of a CD of that group. I have over 900 CDs. Music has always been a big part of my life. My mother is a music major and I had piano, clarinet, and guitar lessons when I was young. I was OK at those but I actually was best at playing the drums which I taught myself to play. I still have my old early 70s Slingerland set in the garage stashed away.

My tastes are all over the place but I mainly like Speed and Death Metal. I am also grateful that I got to see Pink Floyd on their last two US tours way back when. Best concert I have ever seen hands down!!

We are also lucky enough to be close to Chicago as the Aragon and the Riv are two of my favorite venues.
