I think some of the best recordings of all-time, ones that
have been performed by some of the greatest bands of all-time
sound "dated"....if they didn't they wouldn't have the uniqueness
    that made them cool.

Rock doesn't HAVE to be unique, but, awesome as they are,
I'd get tired of AC/DC and the RAMONES 24/7.

Twenty years ago, I'd have been in my cherry '68 Plymouth and still in possession of my almost unbelievable good looks. She wouldn't have thought twice!

If I was 20 now, I'd need to be in a tuner Civic that sounds like a weed eater, cranking some Nickelback. Like Will Smith says, kids just don't understand.

I forgot to add my top 5 favorite band list.

          1) Led Zep!
          2) Pink Floyd
          3) Slipknot
          4) Alice in Chains (with the late Layne Staley-RIP)
          5) Rush

I have every CD those bands put out except for the latest Rush CD. I also have a TON of very cool Floyd RIOs (bootlegs). Some pretty rare stuff too. I bought a bunch of them off a great guy on eBay who was in Russia.

Slipknot actually put out a CD before SIC. It is an import and if you ever listen to it and have heard Slipknot you would swear it wasn't the same band.

I was also very big into punk and still am to an extent. I love the Sex Pistols and even have their last concert on video. One of my music professors in college made me a copy. I loved that class and that teacher! I was so happy to see the original lineup play at the Aragon a few years back. Maggy and I stood six feet away from Johnny Rotten (John Lydon) and they sounded just like they did back in the day. They even brought what looked like some vintage tube amps they used in concert!

I agree. Some great songs/sounds define an era and in that sense are dated. I readily admit that there are no absolutes when discussing music.

I am 33 and listen to everything buy country. Not saying country music is bad it's just not my thing. But if you were to look in my car right now you would find a mix rangeing from Dean Martin to Deicide. My son who is only for would ask me to put on Megadeth rather than kids bop 4!! You are never too old to listen to the music that makes you feel like you are alve!!! Give me Sepultura , Slayer , Vital Remains , and King Diamond any day!!

I'd don't believe anybody is too old for any kind of Music that they love. I'm 45, and I still consider myself a Punk Rocker. I just don't wear the same Clothes as I did when I was 18.

I hear ya... I guess I've been thinking that in these scenarios "rocking out"
in your car at ANY age will get you noticed, not for the music...
but for the wacky rockin' antics

I like many genres of music, but metal has always been one of my favourites. And it's stupid for someone to say you can "outgrow" metal. It's simply a genre of music like any other. Can you outgrow country? Outgrow classical? Of course not, but it sucks that metal has always carried some sort of stigma that most other genres haven't. I'm not sure how that happened.

I haven't grown up much either. I'm 36 and still listen to metal, hardcore, punk and attend shows. I guess it's time for me to listen to John Tesch, Yanni, John Mayer or some other mundane, uncreative act to be more like an adult. No thanks.
