I was in high school, Liverpool, very sad day, quite surreal actually, muted. I couldn't get to grips with the fact that he was gone or with the realization that John had written all these unbelievably great songs that had infused with my life. Its true, you don't know what you've got till its gone.Comment

I was a sophomore in highschool. My mother had woken me up earlier than usual for school and told me to get up and look at the TV. I was in total disbelief. I saw this enormous crowd holding a candle light vigil outside the Dakota. Unbelievable. The rest of the day all I heard on television and the radio were two songs - 'Imagine' and 'Starting Over'. Truly a sad day. I often wonder what Lennon would think about the politics and social messages out there today.Comment

I remember watching about it on the Today show the next morning. Same reaction as with anything tragic: "why?" I had trouble listening to his songs for a while because I would think of the loss of it.It's all good!Comment

I was never a big Lennon fan, but I was a Beatles fan. I heard it on the bus on the way to school. The bus driver had the radio on and it was announced. That was the only time I remember total quiet on the bus the entire ride to school.Comment

Somehow I made it to School without hearing the news, where my fifth grade teacher Mr Shannon spent the morning telling us what a piece of garbage John Lennon was. It seems Mr Shannon was still reeling from the whole "bigger than JC affair" and didn't care much for hippies.
I went home for lunch and found my mum just staring at the news, that's when I learned he was dead. I thought it was for his comments, Shannon failed to mention that happened almost 20 years previous.
Not long after the school transferred out 50% of Mr Shannon's class to a portable, I felt like I had escaped. He was incredibly miserable and borderline abusive.Places to find PlaidStallions online: https://linktr.ee/Plaidstallions

I got up in the morning and heard the news getting ready for highschool.
It was the talk of my highschool all day.
My mom knew I was a big Beatles fan and bought me this shirt for Christmas only 2 weeks later ... Christmas 1980
She bought it at K-Mart
To this day I still wonder if it might licensed considering it was sold at K-Mart ...
I wore it to school once every week for like the following year straight.

I can never relate to people being more upset over a celeb dieing, death in itself is tragic but being a celeb doesn't make it more so.
When Cobain killed himself and there were all these kids commiting suicide because of it was beyond dumb. look at Jackson more recently he was a non entity in the music biz but all of a sudden he's a god again?
I loved the Beatles music but felt nothing at Lennons passing other than it being tragic he was killed by aother person. Does Lennons death mean more then Harrison?Looking for Infinite Heroes Robin and Catwoman

I was only eight at the time. I don't remember specifically how or where I first heard it. My older brother was a big fan at that time and it was huge news in my house. I just remember it being everywhere, you could not escape it. I did not become the Beatlemaniac I am today until years later.
I took my two older kids to Strawberry Fields in Central Park a few years ago and showed them where John lived and was killed. They still talk about that. they were only like 6 and 4 at the time but it leaves an indelible impression on you.Comment
