December 8th, 1980. Where were you??

Tommorow will be the day that John Lennon was shot. I just wanted to remind some of you of that tragic day we lost one of the greatest musicians of all time.

He was shot dead by that ******* that I will not disclose his name at the entrance of the building where he lived, The Dakota, on Monday, 8 December 1980; Lennon had just returned from the Record Plant Studio with his wife, Yoko Ono.

Lennon was pronounced dead on arrival at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Center, where it was stated that nobody could have lived for more than a few minutes after sustaining such injuries. Shortly after local news stations reported Lennon's death, crowds gathered at Roosevelt Hospital and in front of The Dakota. He was cremated on 10 December 1980, at the Ferncliff Cemetery in Hartsdale, New York; the ashes were given to Ono, who chose not to hold a funeral for him.

I found this wikipedia website that has more information on his death and what actual transpired that day.

Death of John Lennon - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Any of you remember where you were when you heard that? I was a young Beatles fan and listened to a lot of my mother and uncle's records on the turn table and my mother broke the new to me. It was my first dose of reality that we are mortal.
The first time I remember someone that I idolized and wanted to be was now gone. It is still hard to believe some evil monster took a great man's life like that.

I was 11, and I saw it on the front page of the morning paper after getting up for school. I remember thinking how upset my sister would be.. she was 10 yrs older than me and grew up loving the Beatles.

I was in the 4th grade living on my parents farm--most likely playing with Star Wars figures or Megos at the time. I didn't even know who he was for years after the fact.

^This, if you substituted "Twiki" for "Paul Macartney".

I was only 7, but I remember my mom and older brother being really upset.

I was actually 8 years old and me and my buddy were playing with some 3 3/4 chips figs and dukes of hazzard.I remember that was the same night I lost bo duke in the snow.I later found him half frozen outside in the spring.
But it was the night Lennon was shot.

Same here. Didn't listen to the Beatles back then. As a 13 year old, I was thinking more about my upcoming 14th birthday on December 15th and looking forward to the release of Styx's "Paradise Theater".

Didn't pay attention when it happened. For whatever reason, Reagan getting shot stuck in my head more.

                            I was in high school.

Did you go to Westlake Jr High?

I figured because you live nearby there.

I went there during the late 70s.

Then I went to Oakland High....graduated in 1981.
