Yes, that is right. You are a Rick Springfield fan. I forgot about that.

Hit me up on the FB and I'll tell you about the ski jet trip we took with Rick.

If I would have thought about it, I could have got you an autograph.

I'll ask around if I can get one for you. You have to apreciate someone who is a fan of Rick Springfield. A lot of people have written him off as a pop teen icon who was just a phase.

Alot of people don't realize that when he was being labeled as a "teen icon" he was in his late 20s early 30s. He never really wanted that label.

Another note. Rick Springfield isn't a poser with a "Leif Garret/Jonas Brother's untalented pretty boy stardom" Rick is an actual musician and he can play and write his own music. He has been pigeon holed since the 80s and it sucks.

He is also a good actor. I love seeing him return as Dr. Noah Drake on GH. He is an all together talented man. Feel sorry for a lot of the BS he went through in the 90s.

    Venus in Overdrive rocks!!!!

    OK.....back to John Lennon

1980 I was 8 years old and KISS crazy. I had been since the age of 6, and had yet to discover the genius of The Beatles. Sure I knew who they were, but I cared about few other bands. I don't really remember anything about Lennon's death at the time. Years later while raiding my Mom's album collection I pulled out Abbey Road and have been a big fan ever since, even through my punk rock years. :p

      Truly a tragic loss.

I remember getting up for school and my mom telling me of his passing. I was devastated to say the least. I was star-struck because I had met Lennon the previous January in Central Park so I was hooked. I have a rough time with it.

Ohhh! You guys are talking about someone in Ringo's old band! I had wondered who this 'John Lennon' person was, but now that you mention Ringo, I totally remember that he was once in a band called The Beetles (by the way, you've all been spelling 'beetles' wrong). I wouldn't have known the other guys names though. For all I knew, the other Beetles could have been guys named Pete and Stuart.

The thing about John Lennon, George Harrison and Paul McCartney ... Yes, our generation loves them and perhaps the next will too ... But I don't see it going too far beyond that.

Ask any kid on the street who John Lennon was.
            He'd probably say, "who?"

Ask the same kid who Ringo is.
He'd probably say "that drummer guy"

The Beatles will last ... but not it's individual members.

I think that really depends on the geographic location of people. Most kids known who the Beatles are since the breaking of the new Beatles Rockband.
Don't think it works like that though.

I was 12 so it really doesn't stick out in my memory. I knew the Beatles but didn't really know the individual singers. My parents weren't Beatles fans either so it doesn't seem to register with me.

Ironically, I do have memories of Elvis dying but mostly because my parents were big fans and I knew him as the fat, rhinestone wearing guy who I would see occassionally on tv and really had no idea why my mom thought he was anything special.

I grew up in a small town and lived a relatively sheltered life. I know I have relayed this story before but in 1982, I was 14 at the time and went to visit my aunt in Los Angeles around Christmas. We saw the Rose Bowl parade and my mom absolutely went berserk when she saw that Jimmy Stewart was the Grand Marshall. He drove right in front of us and waved at us. My mom was telling me to wave back and I just looked at her like she was crazy and told her I had no idea who this old guy named Jimmy Stewart was. She said, "Just wave. You'll understand who he is one day."

Really don't remember where I was. It wasn't a life-changing event to me.
I remember when Nixon resigned; when Elvis died; when Reagan was shot; when the Space Shuttle exploded and 9/11.
                  Those were much more memorable.

Elvis is becoming more of a mere memory than Lennon.

I don't think Elvis is that well known outside the United States anymore.

Lennon's death was so much more tragic...he was murdered in cold blood.

Elvis' drug intake would even make Lennon blush...and he died because of that...as a druggie who ate too much...clogging his arteries.

Not even close...Lennon was coldly murdered...Elvis croaked due to his own stupidity.

I will second that. Thank you Hector taking the words out of my mouth.

I love Elvis but got totally burned out on him when I ran sound for an Elvis Impersonator several years ago. It took awhile for me to listen to Elvis again.
Hearing those songs over and over....aaaggghhhH!
