All levity aside...I was about 9 when JL died and have no memory of his

I was probably still transfixed to cartoons, toys and not much else at that time.

      Bless Lennon and his fans---RIP

I did not mean to do that, let me rephrase. I was never a big fan of his SOLO music. I am a big Beatles music fan. I feel he is just as much a part of the band as any of them, I do not "devalue" him within the band.

Not sure if people saw this. I put this together for some guy that you might remember, Rick Springfield.
It is a song he wrote about John Lennon.

              Yes...I see----

megoapesnut, I just wanna make clear I wasn't crticizing your post-----
---just dragging you into my guilt issues for (somewhat) agreeing with you
              in this deathday thread.

Personally I'll do ya one worse....I think Paul's contributions to the Beatles
were at least slightly greater than John's.

I feel pretty blah about John's solo material on the whole.
Some of it is pretty decent tho'....

....bottom line we're more McCartney fans than Lennon fans...and I don't
know exactly why but I always feel the need to re-state that time to time

-----probably because Lennon is many times looked at as the more
"artistic" and thus more "valuable" of the two---I put more stock
into Paul's melodic bass and vocal lines, personally.

That aside---John's death was a horrid tragedy and I wish all good things
for the deceased John and his fans.

                .
I beg to differ. After McCartney is long gone.....it will be Lennon that stands the test of time and will be remembered more. Why? Because he was the most interesting of all four.

That right there is why I prefer Paul.

I'm more into melodic pop hooks than being "interesting"....just personal preference....altho' you may be correct with the call, how history remembers
the two is not part of my own "personal" equation.

^ I agree with you Hugh! (That in itself is a surprise, right? ). I've always liked McCartney's musicality as it were compared to Lennon's. Heck, I think Ringo is my 2nd favorite solo Beatle (lots of early 70s listening)....followed by Lennon and Harrison bringing up the rear.

IMO, 200 years in the future ... If you mention The Beatles ... Most people will probably only be able to name Ringo

Popularity is a funny thing and very fickle

It's interesting that you pick Ringo as "#2" and it makes in the context of
what we're talking about for sure----John and George were definitely the
more "meandering"...um...."progressive" in their solo careers.

That being said, I still love some of George and John's more popular
solo singles and some popular deeper album cuts...

WATCHING THE WHEELS, DAYS LIKE THESE, STEPPIN' OUT, COLD TURKEY
etc. etc. all dearly loved by myself.

As far as George---I'll mention that great song he did for TIME BANDITS
(Dream Away) and leave it at that for now!

I take it that you read that Albert Goldman book?

Never happened. Goldman was a pervert and I am glad he is dead.
Too many authors cash in on dead people because they can't defend themselves.

Actual no...in fact if you hadn't decided to embellish your post I would have had no idea what the heck you were talking about based on your first sentence....
