I think those executives looked at the time of the writer's strike and said to themselves "That wasn't too bad. We've got tons of movies in the archive that a monkey would be able to remake, and if all else fails...American Idol/Dancing with the Stars/Survivor/etc. the Movie."

Someone needs to bring them back to reality.

        >Another Karate Kid is sure to spark some curiosity

I think the confounding variable is that "The Karate Kid" WASN'T a new film when it came out. It's one of those stories that gets remade every few years with a different name and slightly different trappings. Sometimes Daniel-san joins the football team, sometimes he stands up to the local gang leader, sometimes he just wants to dance....

So, is it worse to remake a film as something "new," or to directly remake an old version?

I have decided to skip most remakes completely.
We can complain about them being made, but the best way to ensure that they stop doing these rehashes is...not going to see them.
As long as we go see them, they'll keep on making them.
          Boycot the b***ards!

I wouldn't be caught dead watching Keanu "The Day His Face Stood Still" Reeves, murdering the memory of Michael Rennie....

I liked the original but sheesh, I find it surprising they are doing a remake of it.

Yeah the original films were ok at the time but i prefer the old kung fu flicks with J.Chan,Yuen Biao and Samo Hung,i know they were badly dubbed but the Martial arts were great to see.

Maybe they need new writers in Hollywood i hope they don't do any remakes of the Warriors or the Penitentiary films

I still say KARATE KID 1 & 2 are great movies

If you want to drag SUPERMAN 3 into this thread along with your buddy
BK---and razz me for it---then fine----I have to wonder why it
bothers you that much that I think S3 is a good movie----oh well.

Don't Get me started on that pile of junk starring Hillary Swank. Of all the Films of the Karate Kid Franchise that is the one not on my shelves ............nor should it or ever will be. I had hopes for that one, but as I feared I was very dissapointed.

Anyone else ever play and enjoy the Karate Kid NES game ? I used to love playing that for hours. I loved the mini games, nothing beat breaking the Ice blocks. Oh and DAMN you Typhoon strikes stage. .....You took away hours of my childhood. LOL

Scrapped in favor of a remake of Howard The Dork. J/K

I am not sure. I heard about something was coming on Porky's and never heard anything else.

This Movie shouldn't even warrent a Remake..., Why can't they just call it something else ? I'd rather watch a Segal Movie,.. one of the Direct to video Releases.

Are there even that Many Karate Kid fans out there ? ... I caught a Bit of it a few weekends ago,.. on TBS or something,.. & I think the Movie is pretty Horrible today.. I don't buy the Story,.. nore Believe Machio could ever take Johnny. Or that Elizabeth Shoe Would ever Be into Machio,.. She was far too Hot for Him.

BTW,.. I liked the Marky Mark Monkey Movie.
i agree machio is a punk i would've picked on him too.
and burton's pota will be a classic compared to this remake of karate kid.

Most remakes stink, but they aren't meant for us. They're meant for kids. I'm not sure who The Day the Earth Stood Still was for, though.
