According to EW, Jackie Chan will play Mr. Miyagi in a remake of The Karate Kid by Sony Pictures. He will serve as the mentor to 10 year old Jaden Smith, son of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith. The movie will film entirely in China.

Another Karate Kid is sure to spark some curiosity, and it will be interesting to see the spin that Chan puts on the old Pat Morita character. On the other hand, it sure will be hard for this film to live up to the old one. In other words, there's a distinct possibility that the new version of this film might be another one of those 'wish they hadn't made it' remakes.

Kind of like Planet of the Apes, you know? So it's wait and see time for Karate Kid fans."

This Movie shouldn't even warrent a Remake..., Why can't they just call it something else ? I'd rather watch a Segal Movie,.. one of the Direct to video Releases.

Are there even that Many Karate Kid fans out there ? ... I caught a Bit of it a few weekends ago,.. on TBS or something,.. & I think the Movie is pretty Horrible today.. I don't buy the Story,.. nore Believe Machio could ever take Johnny. Or that Elizabeth Shoe Would ever Be into Machio,.. She was far too Hot for Him.

BTW,.. I liked the Marky Mark Monkey Movie.

I loved the original,the Kobra Kai was bad ***!! I don't know about a remake though,and not with a 10 year old kid,it's better to see a high school guy get punked around

I think Hollywood is seriously running out of things to do new and instead of taking a chance with a new idea. They are doing remakes because they can at least interest people or fans of the older movie.

OK, how many people are sitting around thinking "Man wouldn't a new Karate Kid remake be sweet?" ?? I liked the Marky Mark one, too BK. I really liked the approach to the twist ending.

at least this Miyagi will actually know martial arts. I loved Pat Morita but the guy moved like a turtle. My kids have been enjoying the KK movies....they play them on AMC or one of those channels all the time

and yes I liked the remake of POTA too, but not as a remake, just as a movie in it's own right. Nothing will ever live up to the originals we all grew up on and loved...still love in fact

Yeah but Cruise was at the top of his game back then...everything he touched was a hit. I'm not sure Macchio EVER had "game".

I always thought Shue was overrated...not that hot.

I also don't worry about re-makes---either they're good or they aren't.

It's not any sliver of life-altering----except typing about it on message boards

and the sequel (2) is just as good OR better.

I'm not opposed to a re-make of Karate Kid as long as it's good. I really like the original and think it works exceptionally well for a movie of its kind (implausible coming-of-age anti-bully pro-tolerance movie, in the vein of My Bodyguard etc.) A contemporary re-do could be good if respect is paid to the original.

One of the stations (I think it was AMC) was airing a Karate Kid marathon last week and one of my kids asked me if I'd see them. I love the first 2 (I've never seen the 3rd), and they really need to leave this concept alone. I know Gil Gerard and Ernie Reyes, Jr. had a TV version of Sidekicks. That didn't last too long. They can make another movie involving martial arts, a kid and a mentor. Why do they have to call it The Karate Kid?
