Fantastic Four casting rumors

I'm with you. I don't get the hate towards the FF movies...I loved them and thought they were very true to the light-hearted tone of the comics. The interactions between Ben and Johnny were spot on and very funny.Comment

I'll probably pass on this one, especially if they go the darker, more gritty approach. If the source material was dark and gritty(Batman/The Dark Knight), then I have no problem. But if the comic was originally supposed to be slightly more tounge and cheek, then I do have a problem. If it ain't broke, then don't fix it. Ang Lee's The Hulk needed to be fixed, as does Daredevil.Comment

From AICN:
The Wrap's Jeff Sneider has learned that Michael B. Jordan is in contention to play Johnny Storm aka The Human Torch in the Josh Trank-directed reboot. Unlike previous casting rumors, this is 100% true, and has been for quite some time. Other names have come and gone, but Jordan has been Trank's number one choice for Storm for months. And why wouldn't he be? Jordan is a terrific actor with charisma to incinerate. If you're wondering "Does that mean Sue Storm will be African American, too?", my answer would be "Not necessarily, and have you ever heard of adoption?" Jordan's up for the role because he is an immensely talented performer with big-time star potential. Fox and Trank (who previously directed Jordan in CHRONICLE) would be out of their minds not to consider him.PUNY HUMANS!Comment

Seriously, I'm so tired of Hollywood trying to be PC and change things to get a demographic to come see a movie. If he's playing a different character, i could live with it. I grew up with Johnny Storm being a White guy, not Latin, not Black, not Asian
and i get a offended when it is a Black character and they throw reverse racist jokes in...like: you know you white's don't know nuthin' bout how it is for a brother or what U know bout Dis or Dat?....Lame racist garbage like that.
If a movie is good it's good, it will pull everyone in........Comment

Isn't it fascinating that Marvel's idea of "progressive" activism is taking a traditionally Chinese villain and making him this androgynous white terrorist? The truth is ALL of these characters are stereotypes in one form or another. All Marvel is doing is playing role reversal. But it doesn't change the fact it is STILL a stereotype. How does that make them progressive in cultural attitudes? Answer: It doesn't. Their just stereotyping a different group. It just never ceases to amaze me how the concept of tolerance is only asked from one group of people to appease the special interest of others not interested in the process. And BTW will this make Sue Storm black as well? I mean. Johnny and Sue are suppose to be family. Wait. Maybe she'll be white and they'll have mixed parents and we can all hum the song "Ebony and Ivory".Last edited by MIB41; May 3, '13, 7:07 AM.Comment

Hollywood should stop mucking with our heroes, just do them the way they were meant to be, no silly looking armour like in the new ironman 3 armour or even Dark Knight. If he is made African American, I will not go see the rebooted FF movie, this is not based on discrimination, it is beased on that I want my comic book characters reprsented they way they were meant to be from day one. if a comic character is African American they keep him so for ever, if he is made whiter then keep him so. I would also not go see a CAPTAIN american movie were the falcon is made white or any other race other then what he was created as.Comment

Well, if Jordan has been the director's number one choice for months now, he'll probably get the part.
Too bad, cause I refuse to watch it if he does. It's not even so much race as it is the physical appearance that is part of a character's identity to me.
I already accepted the fact that Electro will be black in ASM 2. I'm not happy about it, but hey, I wanted to see his classic costume too. This however is just too much. When people defend these types of casting choices, they are basically saying appearance doesn't matter to the character right? I would be just as upset were they to cast Kevin James as the Torch. Who cares if he's 40, overweight and balding as long as he can act the part? I CARE, because that's NOT what the character looks like.Comment

this is truly sad . . . . PC GONE WILD or just and idiot at the helm either way, I'm out . . . . .
society in general leans so hard to make certain groups feel relevant that they suspend reality in the process . . . . next we'll hear that the HULK is gay so they (Hollywood)can push that agenda . . . . in saying this, I mean no offense (all emcompassing pc disclaimer)My Custom Figures

I'm a huge FF fan, but I hated the movies, so my only concern is for the quality of the script. I don't get hung up on the literalism that goes on with these things, if the movie is good - it's good. I don't care if it looks like the comic. I guess for some fans it's fulfilling - in a fantasy way - to see comic characters portrayed as real people, but I just don't have that desire in me for some reason. The comic is the comic; the movie is the movie. I would just rather see a good movie instead of a crappy one that looks more like the comic I've been reading for 30 years.
My knee jerk reaction is that if any character in the FF was going to be black it would be Ben. If, for no other reason, it would be easy to use cultural short-hand to explain his backstory: kid from a tough, poor neighborhood gets an athletic scholarship, takes his studies seriously and becomes friends with the 'Ben Franklin' of the future... It's at least using cultural bias to propel the story further quickly, instead of making it convoluted with some kind of adoption sub-plot.Comment
