The writer and director do not seem promising, regardless of the casting.

One of those dudes only seems to be a writer-for-hire for adaptations: "Dark Shadows" and "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter", the other dude's written basically nothing. The director's only done one movie - which I liked okay - but was far from fantastic or 'visionary'.

Oh, and just so you know, that writer-for-hire dude is working on "Beetlejuice 2" right now too. Blechhh.

Here's a wild thought. If you want to add ethnic actors and characters use that actor to play Black Panther and also work Wyatt Wingfoot into the storyline and viola` there's your demographics without changing the core group. Oh, but that would mean writing a good story. I see the problem.

There were rumours recently that Miles Teller (below) was being considered for the role of Reed Richards... but looks like they were false, thankfully.

This movie is a trainwreck. A sad attempt at hipness.

If the FF reboot actually does get made with even actors remotely close to some of the rumours being bandied about, it will likely make the two Tim Story FF outings look like masterpieces!
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

I love the Story films, they're awesome. So far the reboot sounds like something I'll be avoiding, something I never thought I'd say about a Marvel film.

I don't get hung up on the literalism that goes on with these things, if the movie is good - it's good. I don't care if it looks like the comic. I guess for some fans it's fulfilling - in a fantasy way - to see comic characters portrayed as real people, but I just don't have that desire in me for some reason. The comic is the comic; the movie is the movie. I would just rather see a good movie instead of a crappy one that looks more like the comic I've been reading for 30 years.

My knee jerk reaction is that if any character in the FF was going to be black it would be Ben. If, for no other reason, it would be easy to use cultural short-hand to explain his backstory: kid from a tough, poor neighborhood gets an athletic scholarship, takes his studies seriously and becomes friends with the 'Ben Franklin' of the future... It's at least using cultural bias to propel the story further quickly, instead of making it convoluted with some kind of adoption sub-plot.
You hit the nail on the head across the board here.

Good story and production above all else first.

Yes, if they wanted to incoorporate a Black actor into the mix, Ben Grimm was the way to go, not Johnny Storm, I so agree with you there.

That Black actor from Chronicle is a very good actor, he's currently starring in Fruitvale Station, about that shooting at a BART station in Oakland (near my house)...he has tons of charisma, but I just don't see him as Johnny Storm unless they make Sue Storm Black as well, and I'm positive they will not be going that route.

Yes, a bit too PC even for me, lol.

I'm all for trying new stuff, but one of the things about Johnny Storm was that he was already an overprivileged WASP kid who, unlike the other members of the FF, used his mutatedness to gain even more attention. This acted as a counter to what Ben Grimm went through - Ben was already in his best friend's shadow, then he ends up overshadowed by this kid who's never had to work for anything in his life. Johnny gets the flashy powers and gets to stay looking "normal" most of the time, while Ben is treated by a freak.

Casting a black actor as Ben would have said a lot more about how minorities are treated by the media etc, than casting one as Johnny.

Hector, Did they change Sue Storm to fit Alba's ethnicity, or did Alba change to fit Sue Storm?

Now explain how they're not going to have to alter Johnny Storm to fit Jordan?

And the simple fact is, it is classic Hollywood stereotyping by taking the one FF cast member who's the flashy, mouthy, hothead, and making him black.

It's same thing when the made the Kingpin black. By casting Duncan, it was implying "highly successful black businessman are still gangstas".

If any character could be made a black male and make perfect sense from a character and metaphor perspective, it's Daredevil. But nooooo, they ain't happening because then they lose IP value in Power Man, Falcon and Panther.

Hollywood groupthink politics is all guilt-ridden touchy-feely nonsense and they never consider the implications.

When Tim Story, who is black, was casting the FF, he wanted Bernie Mac as The Thing at one point. And that would have worked because Mac had established a persona that had the some gruff as Grimm. But Chiklis had made himself on The Shield, and Story realized he fit Grimm even closer.

They're not trying that with this casting. It's all hotshotting. The chick from Girls, Brian Williams daughter, stinks. They have a dozen better options for Sue, but she's got the trump card of free PR across the NBC networks.

Trank sucks. Landis is a joke. Chronicle is an overrated R ripoff of an X-Files episode called Lightning Boy, that intro'ed Giovanni Ribisi and Jack Black to the world. Fox are desperate fools to go this route and odds are it's going to get lost in the deluge of projects coming in 2015.

                            ...and that's my rant.

I like Benedict Cumberbatch For Reed, Michelle Williams as Sue, Dave Franco as Johnny and I'd bring Chicklis back as Thing or go with Ron Perlman.

While Chicklis looked the part...he was way too short for Ben.

No way they bring back an actor from the previous FF movie, no way.
