    Perfect logic right there.

Northstar didn't get married twenty years ago and probably wouldn't have been able to two decades ago. But again, DC already did the gay superhero wedding years ago in the authority with midnighter and Apollo (officiated by Ellen Degeneres)... Except the DC regime of the time shut down Millar from talking it up with the press. Although I guess that was Retconned out since the new 52 reboot showed Apollo and Midnighter meeting for the first time in the latest incarnation of Stormwatch.

This is DC trying to ride the "me too" coat tails when Northstar's upcoming Proposal/wedding in Astonishing X-Men hits the headlines tomorrow.
Marvels Gay Marriage News To Hit The View | Bleeding Cool Comic Book, Movies and TV News and Rumors

A character being gay isn't event worthy anymore, but according to the headlines of the day, gay marriage still isn't a given in certain parts of certain countries. The fact that the two characters getting married are both Canadian citizens probably informs their ability to have a legally recognized wedding union.

Interesting theory. Vibe also stars in a DC Nation short.

If he wasn't Retconned out of the new DC 52, my guess would have been Green Arrow Conner Hawke.

Whatever. While I'm not opposed to a gay character DC is so desperate it's pathetic. Sad as before the relaunch I was buying mostly DC titles with a few Marvels even though I'm largely a marvel guy at heart. Slowly but surely I've been dropping DC's and picking up more Marvels as they are hitting a home run with AvsX so far.

Perfect way to NOT regain the children's market. While I myself am not gay or of any particular minority I do see all of these stunts as exploitation and if I were in any of the aforementioned groups I'd be quite offended that my personal plight is nothing more than a novelty to try and snatch a headline.

The worst part IMO is that the headline itself is going to lead to nothing but 1.) tasteless gay jokes about the rest of the characters (keep your eyes on Letterman, Leno and Conan) but even more so 2.) leave this whole one note joke / stunt as the final word for folks who aren't really into comics. I.E. Welcome to a whole new stereotype for the comic book guy to which even the real Comic Book Guy would surely reply, "Worst... publicity... stunt... ever." It's almost as if you are in the mainstream eye if you do not have a gay character as part of your troop than you surely must be a hate filled homo-phobe. As if gay folks are accessories. That my friends is B.S.

It's Lex Luthor. look at the way he looks at brainiacs short shorts in the old cartoons.

Somewhat ironic that this new DC, that seems to be sensationalizing this situation to the fullest as a marketing ploy first, and storyline second, has also chosen to promote Cyborg to the big leagues. Cyborg was one of the first black comic characters whose color wasn't worn on his sleeve. He wasn't an African prince and he wasn't "street" like Luke Cage. His parents were wealthy scientists. He defied black stereotypes in super hero comics. Think they may have learned something from one of their favorite characters, huh?

I'd be curious how our gay members here feel about this. Coming out is usually a very personal and cathartic decision, and DC sees fit to make it a press release rather than incorporate it into a storyline. Its totally cool and long overdue to have a gay character with some profile in the DCU, but it seems its for all the wrong reasons...hype and money. Guess those two concepts rule everything.

When Marvel and DC wanted to include black characters they created them, and they are still around four decades later. They didn't change up an existing character. I realize there weren't that many to alter at the time. Time will tell if any of this sticks, but I see this as blatantly exploitive. Maybe I'm way off on this...

If it is Barry, would that mean they'd have him and The Piper hooking up?
