I would like to think that is more then a board rumor and Dick Grayson can return in his past to being the first Robin. I don't like this reboot Nightwing (never being Robin) one darn bit.
Wait a minute...Dick Grayson was never Robin?

Okay, they have lost their minds.

Yes sir. From what was said there has been Tim Drake and Damion Wayne. Nightwing has always been Nightwing a local vigilante friend of Batmans.

Remember the five year law Chris? I know....I know...
I have been cradling my Dick Grayson Robin figure over and over and rocking slowly, cannot believe this is happening.

Unless I hear different this is what the boards are lighting up with.

No. That's not true at all. I have all the issues of Nightwing, Batman, Batman and Robin, and Batgirl since the New 52 came out. There was no such reference to this being the case. Infact, in the Batgirl comic she mentions him as the first Boy Wonder. Also I have every issue of Red Hood and the Outlaws and it's been very clearly stated that Jason Todd was the second Robin. He even appears in the Robin costume...

Batman #1, Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo. About 12 pages in on the second panel is a shot of Bruce and his boys wearing tuxedos. It has a caption box next to each character...
"Dick Grayson. Former Robin. Current: Nightwing. Access Level: High"
          followed by
"Tim Drake. Former Robin. Current: Red Robin. Teen Titans member. Access Level: High"
"Damian Wayne. Current Robin. Access Level: High"

You really can't go back and change the past... All those Alan Scott adventures in the past still exist! Unless DC has taken to sneaking into fans houses in the middle of the night to destroy them in some Orwellian plot (I wouldn't put it past those guys!)

Lots of trades and collected editions exist to be discovered by new and old fans to be enjoyed. It really is a golden age of access when you think about it... Anyone remembering reading those Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman encyclopedias as a kid and wishing you could read all those adventures they talked about from the golden and silver age? Not only can you find those in print collections... Most exist in digital format somewhere online.

I never thought i would get the read the Justice Society stories , but thanks to the DC Archives i finally am. i just wish Flash and GL weren't moved out so fast. i need to get several more volumes in before they return. between those and the JLA/JSA crossover books there is still good stuff to read. Even if it's not new stuff. most of it is new to me.

True. But it's really hard for me to swallow that DC, the company that has always acknowledged it's past with some amount of reverence, has just thrown their history to the side in such a slap-dash fashion for a quick buck.

No. That's not true at all. I have all the issues of Nightwing, Batman, Batman and Robin, and Batgirl since the New 52 came out. There was no such reference to this being the case. Good to know, but the fact that Bruce ran through 4 sidekicks in 5 years is ludicrous. Honestly they should have rebooted at least 2 of them out. And those would have been Jason and Damian.

I think if DC had done a proper send-off to the old continuity and just flat out said this is a totally new reboot, it would have been a better transition. This deal about a "soft" reboot with these radical of changes was a major misfire (maybe even moreso than the reboots themselves). It created more ill-will from older fans than it would have otherwise. Not fully rebooting Batman and Green Lantern was also a huge mistake within a massive mistake.

That's my two cents. I'm done now again.

I think Alan's supposed to be in pain. Looks like he's on fire to me.

While I would have rather had stories set in the 40s or 50s with the real JSA, I prefer the way DC is rebooting Earth 2 to "the standard DC Earth" in that it is a totally new continuity. We're not left guessing or wondering what has or hasn't happened with the characters.

I've not read the latest issue of Nightwing, but up to that point nothing has shown up in the comics saying Dick Grayson had never been Robin. In interviews, Marts, the Batman editor, said to view the Robins as 1-year internships starting with Dick and going through Damian. The DCpU is bad enough without making it worse.

When I read these comics I believe what I chose to believe. I don't agree that he's had 4 Robin's in 5 years so I don't acknowledge it. I just think it's continuing on from pre52 and nothing really changes for me. Especially since to date nobody in any of the Bat comics has said "5 years ago...". So far I think it's only been the DC Executives and who cares what they think.

                        >the company that has always acknowledged it's past with some amount of reverence, has just thrown their history to the side in such a slap-dash fashion for a quick buck.

I know a lot of fans feel that way; but this is the company that completely retooled it’s entire cast during the 60's so’s to make ‘em more marketable. And the company that was at the vanguard of the 80's “dark and gritty” thing. And the company that’d throw a gorilla on the cover just for the extra sales. The only reason they hung onto more of the past was ‘cos someone got the idea to use it after their complete redo in the 60's. Which led to numerous other worlds, alternate takes and general befuddlement. And the ever popular “imaginary story.” (Who now weeps for Batman’s evil brother?)
                        >gone is the classic costume in favor of some Image style armor.

....and here’s a REAL sobering though; the 90's Image-esque boom was 20 years ago.... right about time for the nostalgia to start!

This dude’s armour reminds me more of Lex Luthor’s old power suit.

                        >Unless DC has taken to sneaking into fans houses in the middle of the night to destroy them in some Orwellian plot

It’s only a matter of time:

Amazon recalls (and embodies) Orwell's '1984' | Beyond Binary - CNET News

                        >looking at this picture of Alan Scott he looks like he's lost his ****ing mind.

I would too if I was on fire. ‘Course, DC has always been known for their shock covers so this probably only has a passing connection with the actual story. (Kinda like how you’d think Aquaman was a total wuss if all you saw were the 60's covers. Dude got tied up more than Wonder Woman....)

I thought his armor in this picture was very much a reference to Hal Jordan when he became Parallax in the 90's. All the yellow and the skeletons represented the yellow ring fear energy. I'm not saying that Allan Scott is Parallax, just that I noticed a similarity in this one instance.

Perhaps he is fighting his own fears or something?

That's good!!! I have been misinformed. Maybe this reboot has a chance now.
Now, what about the five year rule? Didn't I just read that Batman has a ten year rule on him? Who just sent me that? Is there anything truth to that? or is Batman going to go through Robins like my Grandmother does cigarettes?
