For all of it’s perceived faults that we as “traditional” Spider-Man fans will point to, I have little doubt this movie will make money hand over fist. It is still Spider-Man, albeit an altered take and it still boasts two of the hottest up and coming stars in Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone. (Not to mention a tremendous talent in Dennis Leary who will chew on scenes himself) I also feel the “Twilight” comparisons are a reach.
The costume likely should have been left alone but they didn’t stray too far, and the eyes on the mask look much better than they did on the Raimi suit.
Spider-Man, Batman, and Superman are characters that will endure time much like Sherlock Holmes, Robin Hood and others. And with that they will (and must) be re-invented again and again.
This is a perfect example of that aspect.

Is it any wonder Kevin Bacon has now joined in these films?
Or were the heavens and earth all built by Shield and Nick Fury in seven days? I'm bored to tears with this endless arc of connection between all of these Marvel heroes and FREAKIN' Shield! It's not only boring, but completely unoriginal. It's like Marvel is trying to make their heroes into GI Joe for Christ's sake. Who has the Kung Fu grip? Nothing is that neat in the world and nothing reeks more of bad writing than explaining it all away by saying someone was behind all of this. Well...I take that back. I guess there is "something" behind all this...TOYS!
But I think that about sums it up. Tying everyone together takes away any real individuality they all deserve to have.
