For all of it’s perceived faults that we as “traditional” Spider-Man fans will point to, I have little doubt this movie will make money hand over fist. It is still Spider-Man, albeit an altered take and it still boasts two of the hottest up and coming stars in Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone. (Not to mention a tremendous talent in Dennis Leary who will chew on scenes himself) I also feel the “Twilight” comparisons are a reach.
The costume likely should have been left alone but they didn’t stray too far, and the eyes on the mask look much better than they did on the Raimi suit.
Spider-Man, Batman, and Superman are characters that will endure time much like Sherlock Holmes, Robin Hood and others. And with that they will (and must) be re-invented again and again.
This is a perfect example of that aspect.
