...and it doesn't make me feel ANY better about the reboot whatsoever!
Here's some "official" descriptions from the newly-born website...
The Story
Like most teenagers his age, Peter is trying to figure out who he is and how he to be the person he is today. In his journey to put the pieces of his past together he uncovers a secret that his father held... a secret that will ultimately shape his destiny as Spider-Man. This is the first in a series of movies that tells a different side of the Peter Parker story. On July 3rd, 2012, the untold story begins.
Peter Parker
Ever since Peter's parents disappeared 13 years ago, he has struggled to find his purpose in life. Now, on the brink of unlocking the mystery about what happened to them, he must face the ultimate challenge - one that has been created within the laboratories of Oscorp.
Gwen Stacy
Smart, charismatic and rebellious, Gwen is the chief intern at Oscorp, a position she takes very seriously. But her life takes a complicated turn as she watches both her boyfriend, Peter, and her mentor, Dr. Connors, undergo radical transformations.
Captain Stacy
An esteemed police officer for over twenty years, Captain Stacy is the public face of the NYPD who leads the department's investigation into Spider-Man's vigilantism. The only thing Captain Stacy vows to protect more than the city is his family - and particularly his only daughter, Gwen.
Dr. Curt Connors
One of the leading scientific minds, Dr. Connors attempts to engineer a revolutionary regeneration serum to help re-grow limbs and human tissue. His motivations are unclear as to why he elects to be the first human test subject - but what becomes evident is that something goes horribly wrong.
Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but if memory serves me properly, it's long been established in the funny books that Parker's parents were actually SHIELD agents, so unless they're going to cross this universe over with the other MU (the one inhabited by IRON MAN, THOR, etc.), then they're going to have to *******ize that part of the story by having them work for someone else (either someone or some entity connected to OsCorp or some government agency like the CIA, FBI, etc.) Either way, my feelings towards it are totally meh.
Sounds like they've decided to make Gwen a COMPLETELY different character than she was in the books, aside from being Captain Stacy's daughter. OsCorp seems to still be the looming entity in the entire movie mythology, seeings as how both Gwen AND Curt Connors work there. And, from the looks of the trailer, it looks like Pete owes his spider powers to a mishap at the OsCorp labs, too. Oh, joy! It's Jack Napier killing Bruce Wayne's parent's all over again!!!
From the description of Captain Stacy, sounds like they are trying to turn him into the Commissioner Gordon of the Spider-Man franchise. There could be worse roles models, I suppose, but Gordon and Stacy were two cops cut from completely different fabrics and to try to force one into the mold of the other seems off-putting.
Finally, the elephant in the room: OsCorp. Since we can determine from the website that this is destined to be a trilogy (unless this thing tanks (fingers crossed) so badly that SONY bails on that idea), so we can almost bet that, likely in the third and climactic film, we'll see a redo of The Green Goblin, something I dread with this current breed of Spider-Man. If people thought that the Power Ranger GG was bad, what do think a Twilighted GG is gonna be like....? Heck, he might even be sparkly, too!
OK. Last two pieces on my rant, I promise. One of the still shots from the website is this one...

...which looks a lot like one of the posters from Spider-Man 2. Way to go a far as originality, Sony!
The other still shot is this one....

Now, can someone please, please, please tell me how the hell the man is supposed to stick to walls when he's got----stuff on the bottoms of his feet. Looks ridiculous. I think I will take MIB41 on his offer and boycott this sucker. Maybe permanently.
What do you guys think.....?
