Excuse me...but I prefer Alien and Terminator to Aliens and Terminator 2.

The originals are eerie, dark, atmospheric, claustrophobic, creepy, suspenseful, etc...

The sequels are more action-oriented-shoot-'em-up flicks...more standard fare.

It thought that it was a decent movie. With that said, I felt that it didn't meet my high level of expectations. It's good but not great. I really wish it were great.

I really don't think comic fans are being "punished" by Hollywood. Thor and X-Men: First Class were both great films that got good reviews and were successfull at the box office. Captain America and Cowboys vs. Aliens are looking like they too will be good movies that will do decent at the theatures. Overall, this is shaping up to be a pretty good year at the movies for comic book fans; Green Lantern is just the exception.

I don't want to put words in Brazoo's mouth, but I think what he was getting at is, not that comic fans are less picky than the general audience, but that comic fans' priorities are different.

It seems like that for most comic fans, the main thing is that the movies sticks closely to details in the comics. Nolan's Batman, the Iron Man and Spiderman movies were all good movies that were well received by the general movie-going public, but it seems like comic fans nit-pick details like organic web-shooters and Batman's costume. But a movie like Green Lantern comes along that sticks very closely to the source material, and comic fans are willing to overlook things like a bad script. Serveral people here who loved GL admited that it didn't have the best script.

But the general audience isn't aware of the comic book source material so the they couldn't care less about details like Tony Stark's armour. Things like the cast, script, acting etc. are more important. Their priorities are different.

I think what's hurting GL is that a chunk of it's core audience is being pulled away by other movies. When I went to GL, the 7-12 year-old kids (I'm assuming all boys) thoroughly enjoyed the movie and were very vocal in their enjoyment. But I think alot of that age group is getting pulled away by Mr. Popper's Penguins and now Cars 2.

I suspect GL will perform alot better when it hits DVD, especially with the cartoon tie-in coming out.

is this line really in the movie? If so

Best Line from the *GREEN LANTERN MOVIE*

If I'm not mistaken,a sequel was given the go ahead before this came out. I'll have to double check.

With low returns, a sequel will inevitablely be shelved.

Who knows... this negativity surrounding DC heroes may have
the odd effect of WB putting all their eggs in a JL movie basket???

so - i was reading these reviews and others.
many have said Reynolds was good.
MAYBE he matched teh current rendition of GL. I wouldn't know. I haven't read since he recreated Coast City after death of superman.

When Reynolds is on screen I see Reynolds. Only Reynolds. Never any character he is playing. He is terrible. He was bad as GL. The fact it is a special effects/action movie kinda mask his lack of talent but I do not excuse him for it. The Proposal now that one he shines - shines like a polished turd.

the movie needed to reduce clutter. i think that is mainly what is dragging down reviews.

this will get a sequel (already a fact I believe). it will make money (though may not meet expectations). it will hurt the chances of other DC characters getting big budgets (aside from the big 2)

again, i liked it. i did not love it. I put it 31st on my list of comic films.

Go Read Green Lantern Rebirth ..., then Green Lantern 1Threw66 2005 to Current..., Then Tap into some Blackest Night .... Then come back here and Make that Same Statement..., After all... THIS Is Why This Movie was even Made to Begin with. This is where GL Even gained this sorta Popularity to warrent a Movie..., This is why He's on the Big Screen. Not of past ideas where Robin of the Super Friends was Saving Him from the Legion of Doom.

I feel the same about Nicolas Cage as well as Reynolds but it doesn't bother me as much with Ryan.

GL could have moved along quicker. Thor also introduced many new concepts (Asgard, raionbow bridge, frost giants, Odin sleep, Thor's hammer etc.) and more comic characters (not just ones made for the movie) and moved along faster and was more fun. Even the 'catch your breath' scenes didn't slow it down for me.

Several times in GL I thought, 'they are taking way too long to get to the point'. They could have dropped the Hammond subplot and had Parallax home in a Abin Sur's ring signature or some such and it would have been sleeker.
Of course we would have missed out on Angel Bassett who I didn't recognize as Amanda Waller.

Overall I liked the movie and I think the sequel will be better but it could have been smoother.
                                Better late than never.....
