Cool show.
It's not great film making, but it is a fun adaptation. I am writing this as a major GL fan and a realist. Maybe those two don't usually cooincide, but there were good and bad aspects of this.
1. This is an origin story, and those are sometimes painfully slow. Since the general public do not know much about GL, they had to lay this stuff out pretty thick, and it still didn't cover all that's required to fully be engrossed.
2. Ryan Reynolds nails this role. Hal Jordan is a smarmy, arrogant, selfish jackwad as witten by Geoff Johns since Rebirth. I had my doubts about his ability to be heroic, but he really surprised me. I do like him in other roles and films, I just didn't think he'd be right for GL. I was wrong. This really worked well.
3. As mentioned by BK, the cgi suits are awsome. They flow well with each character and really come to life. I also had my doubt about this, but the pics absolutely do not do this any justice.
4. Sinestro is such a freakin badass in a small role. Every second he is on screen he makes the most of it. He is a HUGE presence. I wish they would have had more interaction between he and Hal, but it works as is. In a limited capacity, Mark Strong really makes Sinestro one of the strongest comic movie characters EVER.
5. The Hector Hammond stuff was okay. I can see how some thought it was a speed bump, but it did serve a purpose. I think a different actor might have made it a little more interesting. They could have juxtaposed some Earth stuff for space/lantern stuff but it is what it is.
6. The GL constructs were very, very well done. Not mind-blowing but still very strong stuff. "Really, a race track?"
7. Seeing the GL Corp was fantastic. Lantern Stel, Tomar-Re, Hannu, Kilowog and many others make appearances. It was so cool to see full renderings of these characters and to see how each has a suit built specifically to their body type.
8. John Stewart is listed in the credits but I don't remember seeing him at all, even for a second. Any idea where he was?
Just some random(duh) thoughts about the film. It could have been better, and I'm sure the sequel will be. For those on the fence, if you are a regular reader and fan of GL, go see this. I won't steer you wrong. If you are not a fan of the character or have limited knowledge, this may not be for you. I really liked this. I also geeked out on the mid-credits bonus scene. I knew it was coming, but it was still goosebumps.
