Green Lantern Who has seen it?

Not sure word of mouth still has some power......Lot's of my friends who were iffy now want to see it after they asked me was it worth while......as long as they continue to promo and the word goes out it may still do well......

Batman Begins I remember had this problem......I knew a lot of people who refused to see it....but once the word went out that it was good people went to see it.......

Unfortunately the movie is likely to tank. Monday numbers are already coming in and Lantern only made $5.1 million yesterday. That's a 75% plus drop. Even B&R had a smaller drop than that from Sunday to Monday. *Sigh*... Good movie that never got a chance. Well perhaps it will find it's audience in DVD.

While I do agree that X-men:First Class was better...you really can't compare the two, as they're are completely different types of Superhero Movies.

X-Men is more rooted in deeper real world social allegories such as prejudice, man's nature to fear what it doesn't understand, and things like the "nature verses nurture argument"(Magneto and Xavier).

Green Lantern is more of a FUN light hearted Superhero movie.

I guess I'm the only one who really wasn't thrilled with this movie. I do appreciate that they stuck very closely to what is presented in the comics. But I don't feel the least bit inclined to see it again in the theatre or buy it when it comes out on DVD.

While I'm not a hard-core Green Lantern fan, I'm definately a DC guy but I've gotta be honest, I had a lot more fun at Thor than I did at Green Lantern. While everyone else I went with liked Green Lantern, they all said X-men: First Class was better. I'm not an X-fan at all, but I think I'm gonna have to check that out.

I wish we could get our reviews out there to balance out the critics who blasted the film. I had my issues with the film, which are stated at the start of this thread, but I still liked it and will probably see it again tomorrow.

Headed out in the morning to catch this in 3-D. The wife has not seen one before so I figure this should be the one to start with.

Kinda diappointed Guy Gardner isn't in it as rumored.

Went this afternoon and I enjoyed it! As a GL fan, I expected to sit there going "that's wrong, or that's not the way it is in the book".While there is some of that of course, it didn't trouble me to the point of distraction. I thought Reynolds was good as GL, Blake Lively is suitably perky & cute, and the special effects were awesome.
My daughters went along, and the older one (25), who knows little about GL liked it too. My little one (9) wasn't bothered by the aliens & monsters, and thought it was cool when he said the oath.

My only gripes would be there was just too much put into it, some by necessity to the origin story, but did they need to add Hector Hammond & Parallax? It was a lot of plotline on top of the origin. And Tomar-Re is an avian species, not fish. That DID bother me.

Also, I'm tired of reading reviews & articles about the film in the media prefaced by the line "based on an OBSCURE DC Comics hero". GL has been around for 70 years now with the Hal Jordan version out since the early sixties. There are currently 3 ongoing GL books. He's only "obscure" if you're too lazy to do some research before you write the article. My God are "journalists" lazy-***** these days! Great Caesar's Ghost, Perry White would fire the lot of 'em!

I lked it. I didn't love it. I think the sequel will be better: Move on to his arch nemesis, skip the origin story, develop the characters, have fun.

Just came back from seeing it.......The Critics don't know Sheeeet about Green Lantern....I LOVED it......not perfect but a Fun Popcorn movie.....It is best seen on the big screen....

I'm not trying to be Debbie Downer and love superhero movies but am wondering whether or not this is worth seeing in the theater?

This is a movie that really needs to be seen on the big screen to enjoy it. The digital effects are really great and they will not look as good on the small screen.

Is Green Lantern a great movie, well, no. It certainly doesn't play as well as Superman did in 1978 or Spider-Man 1 and 2.

The editing process seemed a bit rushed to me and though I haven't read the script, I bet it's uneven. I know the original script did not contain Paralax.

The movie has very strong parts to it particularly if you like super heroes and Sci-Fi and fantasy. But in no way is the movie grounded.

So me its a very deep sacrifice fly that scores a run, but in another park, it could have been a home run. I'm hoping they will take what they got right in this one and nail down a better overall story in the sequel.

Again, like the first X-Men and Batman Begins, I think this movie was good but sets up an excellent sequel. Personally, I liked this movie better than X-Men and a hair less than Batman Begins. But all of that stuff is relative.

The difference between this film an Thor is that everything tried in Thor worked; in GL some of it did — OA, Reynolds, the scenes with Jordan's brothers, some of the stuff with Carol Ferris, but the Hector Hammond and Paralax stuff left something to be desired to me.

I'd be careful taking a sensitive child to it. Parts could be scary, but overall its pretty fun movie.
There is some cursing and sexual innuendo, but the latter is no more than you will find on TV.

^Agreed. It's all laid out right there. The GL universe is more readily explained than say any Star Wars or Star Trek film, actually.

The Guardians are idiots...As has been shown in the comics, The Guardians don't always make the most intelligent decisions...Their actions come up to bite them in the behind quite often....

Yup. They have actually caused more harm than good over the years if you think about it. About the only good thing they DID do was form the Corps! Manhunters, Parallax, Sinestro....

It's the Seen where Jordan, is thinking about what Abin Sur say's to him ... But then the Next scene, he just Magically Knows where Hammond is ...., There's something totally missing there imo.

Yeah, that was a bit jarring. But the ring did "bleep" right before that, so I'm guessing it detected Paralax based on the fact that all the other GLs were out searching for it? A simple line of dialog would have fixed that. I bet it's on the cutting room floor somewhere. Wait for the DVD. Or the second DVD.

So the big question is....if you walked into the theater knowing nothing about Green Lantern...would you like it? A lot of mixed reviews here and I know we all want to like it but is it good enough that my wife would like it (she doesn't even know who the Green Lantern.....much less Spider-Man but did watch Spider-Man 1 and loved it). To me, Superman and Spider-man 1 are hands down the best superhero movies made. When I hear that Thor is better (which I haven't seen); it tells me that the movie probably isn't that good unless you are a die hard Green Lantern Fan. I'm not trying to be Debbie Downer and love superhero movies but am wondering whether or not this is worth seeing in the theater? As a side note, I didn't see either of the two recent Batman movies in theaters even though I'm a huge Batman fan. I thought the movies were good but not great.

The answer to that is YES. You don't have to know one thing about the Green lantern to follow this story. You have an opening narrative that clearly explains the Lantern universe. The story unfolds using that opening as a guide and you find yourself rooting for Hal throughout the film. It's both inspirational and fun. A movie for anyone!
