Wife and I went tonight to see it. I have been avoiding spoilers like the plague, so I did not think to stay for the credits. Now I'm bummed. My wife is not a comic books person at all and she enjoyed the movie. I'm not a Ryan Reynolds fan and I thought he was absolutely great. Loved the Carol/Hal relationship and Sinestro and the Corp. My only complaint would be that it is a bit scary for my kids to see (which is why we saw a night movie and had a parent's night out). I think that might hurt the box office for it. This is probably me showing my age, though. I want my Batman to be 1966 and my Superman to be 1978.

The Main Problem with the building of the Plot, as the Fact that Too Much of the building Plot centered around Hector Hammond, which is a Lack Luster character to Begin with. Nobody, even Comicbook Fans Give a Rats Arse About him ..., and after about the Frick'in 6th scene..., Fans are like get on with it already.

Put Half of that Crap in the Movie, rather than All of it..., and somemore Lantern Space stuff, ... and the Film goes from Good to Great.

I think that's a very valid point. One less villian (either Parallax or Hammond) and it would have freed up more time to develop the main characters. This seems to be a problem that comic book movies have, trying to pack too much in in one go-around. It's clear that Sinestro will be the villian in the next one. Hopefully they won't make the same mistake by trying to throw in the Tattooed Man or some such thing. Just stick with Sinestro and develop the relationship between him and Hal and it will be a more compelling movie I think.

I really didn't have any bias against Reynolds, and I don't have major problem with Johns's take on GL. I've read Secret Origin, Sinestro Corp., Rage of the Red Lanterns and Blackest Night/Brightest Day and enjoyed them. I think I liked Johns's take on Hal's origin much more than Emerald Dawn from the 90's.

If I had any bias going into this is was towards the director. Casino Royale is one of my favorite Bond movies with actions scenes and character development that to me were very exciting and compelling. I guess I was expecting something more of that caliber, which isn't fair because they're two very different kinds movies.

Like you say, the trick with GL is combining space fantasy with comic book super heroes. Tricky. I don't know, does this director have any prior experience doing science fiction? Maybe for the sequel they should get a director with more experience in this genre???

I like Hal and I thought the trailers looked good. Not much of a theater person but I'm definitely going to pick it up when it hits blu-ray.

I agree, we took the family and everyone enjoyed it. My 6 year old was engrossed. Not the best movie of the summer, but entertaining.

Just got back from seeing it....It was great! I had no major problems with it...All of the backstory was explained and all of the major parts of the current GL mythos are there.

I though Hector Hammond was sooooo creepy....And I think that was needed to showcase the whole "fear" aspect as well as ground Hal/GL to earth a little bit...He needed the training fighting Hector before he was ready to take on Parallax. I think I feared Hector more than I did Parallax (which I think had something to do with the visuals for Parallax...which is one thing I thought could have been better).

I wasn't initially sold on Ryan Reynolds but I thought he did a fair enough job....not too shabby. I think he'll be better in a sequel now that Hal is past the learning curve.

you're right.

they spent the whole movie developing the bad guy only to leave us hanging at the end. I realize that they assumed a sequel but can't hollywood just give us a stand alone picture.

they could have left hammond out and reduced emphsis on Parallax to give time to finish the story in one picture, and give a more compelling cohesive story.

Funny thing; a bunch of folks at work have seen it.... some superhero nerds, some not.... and NONE of them liked it. But nobody could quite explain why. So I'm really curious as to why so many folks don't care for it. I can KIND OF understand if the Topless Robot review is correct, but problems like those have plagued every action film since the 80's and nobody seems to care in many cases.

Please note, I didn't hate this movie, I just feel that some of the stuff in this film should have been cut, and some of what was cut probably should have been included.

I really think most will draw the same conclusion if we ever get a director's cut.

My 14 year old son and I went to see it today and we both really had a good time with it. I've seen X-men, and I think I liked this one a little bit more. My son said it was a little bit predictable in areas but he still liked it. He said he liked it better than the Spiderman movies. THen he told me he liked it better than Batman returns and I nearly Decked him. We agreed to disagree on that one. I really enjoyed reynolds portrayal of Hal Jordan. Great Type casting there. His costume was driving me nuts. All the aliens were weel done...Great CGI. When it comes down to it, it was a fun Comic Book Movie. We will purchase the DVD when available.

Most Critics are more concerned with what Super Hero Movies have shown and Taught us in the Past, ... and Not 1 of them bridges the Grap Between Science Fiction and Super Heroism like this Movie Tried to Do. Someone that got that shoulda Reviewed the Film.

I thought it was just okay. It's better then the reviews indicate, but it feels rushed with no real character development or any great action sequences. The performances were all solid and Reynolds is likeable, but it just didn't quite come together for me.

I agree! Didn't the critics like Superman Returns? I think it was a great movie too as a matter of fact I liked both GL and SR but maybe I just like bad Super Hero movies?

Superman Returns is right there with the first couple Spidey movies as
the greatest Superhero movies ever made AFAIC.
