Steve Rogers was a solider, but not a very good one...he was always getting chewed out by a Sgt. Carter type....And Bucky Barnes was the camp mascot....Whether either ever saw actual combat, I don't recall....

>Whether either ever saw actual combat, I don't recall
Hmmmm.... I think it falls into that old school superhero thing where a character's day job was -at best- window dressing. When you think about it, Steve SHOULD have been involved in a lot of the fights, since Cap fought alongside the troops every so often.... meaning Steve MUST have been assigned to the area at the time.... meaning he probably SHOULD have been arrested for desertion.
Weird.... I never thought of that before....

Meh...That's not how he was when the comics came out in the 40's DURING the war they were published in...
Things don't ALWAYS have to change...and change ISN'T always an improvement.
...but...
I can see past all this as long as the story is tight...but if it isn't...then all this change is for nothing but flash.
IMHO
PLUS...this may all be because of some stipulation in regards to the settlement (i.e. He can't look like the Timely version or Marvel/Disney needs to cough up some more money)Last edited by WannabeMego; Jan 15, '11, 7:38 PM.Everyone is Entitled to MY Opinion...Your's, not so much!Comment

I don't like what he looks like one bit...I think my bro WannabeMego is right, I don't think Marvel wants to pay Joe Simon. That's why they are going with the Ultimate version of Cap. More pics I see of this debacle makes me not want to see it more and more. Looking forward to the Thor movie...This Cap movie looks like it's gonna suck. Funny how the one pic that they got almost completely right and stuck to the story is the one that a lot of people say "It was OK.." and that was Daredevil. IMHO it's still the best of the Marvel movies."When not too many people can see we're all the same
And because of all their tears,
Their eyes can't hope to see
The beauty that surrounds them
Isn't it a pity".

I think the uniform looks pretty good too.
I'm sure Marvel doesn't want to pay Kirby or Simon anymore $$$. That's the REASON why we see different versions of ALL of our heroes on screen. Lots of us complain about the uniforms don't look like the comics. Marvel/DC don't want to pay to use that version. The Kirby family has Marvel/Disney sued right now. So Marvel has to use a different version: the one they created and own. That's why.

I don't think any of the elements of settlements for Cap have been made public - but if Simon/Kirby are getting royalties for the film I would have assumed that those royalties would be for the Intellectual Property in total and not just specific aspects of the character's outfit. Do royalties get broken down to those specifics ever?
I've seen the re-imagining of Cap with more of a WWII influence popping up in comics and toys for a few years now. I personally think Mike Mignola's "Hellboy" designs were influential in this style.
I just think certain aspects of it work very well. For example, I don't know if I can buy a guy choosing red pirate boots over brown leather combats, or skintight blue pajamas over blue army fatigues. To me it's refreshing - I personally like WWII uniforms a lot.
Personally I like this version better than the one they used in the movie:Comment
