Not struck on that at all, it just looks too bulky and awkward. He looks more like the Michelin Man than Captain America.

Captain America is a WWII era soldier...so his getup should be period correct to honor the real WWII troops...not make a mockery of them by wearing silly spandex.
I hope that clears things up...and yes...I can keep dancing all night long...

I like it except for the brown strap across the center of the chest. It blocks out the star and does make it look like a busy.Wanted:- 12" Robin Shoes; Mego Batcave, Mego Die-cast Batman-loose, Mattel-BSG Gold Cylon loose.Comment

>Captain America is a WWII era soldier
Wait.... WAS he? I know that was his cover, but did he actually go through basic? (Gee, the new guy seems to have no problem with the obstacle course....) Did he ever do any soldiering? All the old stories I saw put him on par with Beetle Bailey.

I think the holsters and belts look awesome and make me want to play with my Joes! I'm not super crazy about the helmet or the some of the padding - which looks a little too modern for me, if this is suppose to be WWII Cap.
I appreciate what some of you guys are saying, but personally there's no chance I'm going to take a guy in a blue suit jumping around WWII with a shield in his pajama's seriously. I'd maybe like to be able to let my mind go with the fantasy that way, but I can't.
I think DC heroes can have a more iconic and traditional superhero treatment for their costumes, but Marvel live action heroes visually need some grounding in reality or I don't think they work well.
Hmm - that's interesting.
I don't know if it would get made this way again - but I think Donner and Puzo had the key to making a traditional version of the suit work when they balanced it by setting the whole thing in a slightly more fantastic and timeless reality. I think that balance was one thing Lester didn't get in Part 2 - he let the late 70s in too much so he kind of found himself out in the deep end. I think that's why he felt he needed to add "comedy" parts where bystanders crack jokes about Superman's outfit. I think it's exactly what Donner set out not to do.
Then again, I think you can go too far as well - and I think that's a trap Tim Burton fell into. It can't be a mishmash of eras, or too fantastic, or the setting competes too much for our attention. His version of Batman suffers from that to me. Why should the regular people of Gotham be so amazed by the Batman and Joker when everything else in their world is already so strange?Comment

It's worth pointing out that the top half of Cap's costume is supposed to be made of a fine, strong chain mail (or scale mail, depending which artist is drawing him).
That's something which no screen version has incorporated so far. I guess logistically it would be very difficult to translate that to a practical costume for movie purposes.PUNY HUMANS!Comment
