Speaking as a hardcore Spidey fan, here's what matters to me as to who plays Spider-Man:
1) someone who can ACT
2) someone young enough to play a high-schooler or young college student for 3-4 films
3) someone who can be a convincing nerd, yet a smart-a** when in costume
Black, white, Hispanic, Japanese, Chinese - who cares? Spidey'll be in costume through all the good parts anyway (oh, and can we PLEASE do away with the breakaway mask schtick like we got in the previous trilogy? PLEASE? Secret identity, remember?)
But what exactly is "white heritage"? If American Superheroes belong to any tradition, keep in mind that most of the icons were created by Jewish-Americans.
And speaking of Jews, if we are talking Jesus, let's remember, it is extremely unlikely that he was a white man, given the region and time period that he lived.
Abed from Community is probably closer in complexion to Jesus than the ones that get to play him in the movies.
Sure I can... He's not Jesus. And by the way even Jesus gets spat on in our school system and no one seems to mind. If we're going to say it's okay to dilute white heritage then all parties are fair game. You can't walk a double standard. If Marvel suddenly came out with a white Falcon, Jessie Jackson would be at their headquarters screaming foul. In this country EVERYONE is suppose to be recognized and heard. Well, guess what? I want Spiderman WHITE as snow. Having pride in my heritage doesn't make me prejudice anymore than a black person having pride in theirs. It ALL counts. This notion that blacks are entitled to get whatever they want and if someone objects that makes them racist is a total fraud.
If they make Peter black, I want a white Martin Luthor King...I'm tired of being asked to sell my heritage for another and pretend like it's somehow "fair" and I'm suppose to "understand".
Spidey 3...one of the worst superhero movies of all times...right up there with Supes 3...
Spidey 3...another movie like SUPES 3 that at the very least had some
solid production values going for it. To up the ante, Spidey 3's
"corny moments" were isolated, so if that's the biggest point of contention
for SUPES 3 at least, SPIDEY 3 had a lot more going for it...I know you
hated seeing VENOMS "face"... but I think the only things "truly" marring
that movie were the dance routines in the flick....specifically the one in
which he belted MJ directly afterwards...as much as I was enjoying that
movie, that made me flinch in a "That was an inappropriate melding of movie tones" moment.
EDITED TO ADD:
And, honestly, at this point...they did me right so well with the Tobey flicks,
they can do anything with the Spidey role at this point and I'd forgive them.
