I don't think there's 1 artist I can say I hate BUT there is 1 inker I really despise. If the artist is lazy or just giving the inker free reign or maybe the inker is over-inking, I don't know. There was a guy named Danny Bulanadi who ruined the Micronauts comics for years. He came in and distorted Pat Brodericks pencils, utterly ruined Gil Kane's tenure and nearly did the same when Jackson Guice came in on the book. I'm not sure what other books he ruined but this guy stunk big time.

Brian, in addition to having crushes on Kirby-esque women, ( in The Eternals and The Demon), I find I also had a thing for Infantino women when he drew Star Wars for Marvel. Just not sure why.

I like Infantino's women. They were built like women, with natural curves, and he knew how to draw breasts with weight to them, not just balloons taped to the chests of 14 year-old boys with impossibly long legs. See Batgirl and his Spider-Woman run.

Other artists' renderings that made me a man: Women as drawn by Nick Cardy, John Romita, Dick Giordano, and George Perez (thanks Starfire!).

A few comments on some artists mentioned:

Gene Colan: I like him on moody stuff. Dracula, Batman, Dr. Strange. But his stuff is too ethereal for Superman, etc. Even Captain America. It just doesn't work.

Curt Swan gets pegged as drawing "dull". And I guess I can see that. But I always appreciated his storytelling and his great ability to handle the quiet moments. He brought a quiet majesty to Superman that fit the character so well. Plus, as stated before, his pencils were rarely properly presented. If they could have shot from his pencils back in the day, WOW!

It depends on whose inking, I had an issue of SW where it looked like leia's jaw and bustline could cut through metal.

Speaking of Infantino, I prefer earlier Infantino....I could never get into his Star Wars work or his 2nd 80s run on the Flash...he used to have a smoother, cleaner look to his work but then it seemed to be sketchier and messy.

^ The issue with Dr. Psycho seemed to work with his style though

I recall Gene Colan worked on Daredevil, pre-Miller,(?), and I guess his style never helped the book because it got bigger when Miller came in. Colan's work seemed more suited to Dracula when he drew that for Marvel. Maybe he should've gone to DC where they had moodier horror titles. He probably would have shined.

I dunno....Colan was on Daredevil from issue #20-100 ('66 to '73)...I'd say that's pretty impressive. Then he did a handful of issues after that right up to the time Miller took over the title. To me, Colan is the definitive Daredevil artist, not Miller.

I met Infantino last year and I felt so bad, I bought one of his books with a sketch in it for $80, I had him do a Robin and he asked his manager/handler how to draw him. He had to take a few breaks to rest his arthritic hands so he'd do a sketch then several autographs then another sketch. I had the feeling his handler was pushing him alot
Looking for Infinite Heroes Robin and Catwoman
                        And Super Powers Batman

I like early Infantino too, especially as inked by Murphy Anderson. Swan by Anderson is great to ("Swanderson"). Infantino on Marvel stuff like Nova & Star Wars was terrible, all angles and jutting features. But if you look closely, that sketchiness was always there, even on early Adam Strange. Look at that first Deadman story he did before they gave it to Adams. I think the inking of Anderson, Joe Giella, Sid Greene etc. took the edge off (literally). Marvel in the 70s & 80s was never very good at matching inkers & artists, as noted in the post about Danny Bulandi above. Never cared for him myself, everthing he did was always "feathery" to me. Ditto for anything inked by Rudy Nebres.

Yup I feel the same. I always thought Colan was the definitive Daredevil artist not Miller. So much so that when Bruce Timm does Daredevil he does it to look like Colan.

The problem with threads like this, is they invariably cause People to be offended...because one of us is bound to insult someones favorite Artist. And People really can't comprehend how it's possible for you dislike something(or someone)...that they like so much. But it's the nature of the Beast...we are all opinionated on this subject...and we know what we like...and no point you can make, or arguement you can provide...will ever change someone else's Mind.

                              Frank Quitely & Gene Colon.....SUCK!!!!
