Well, the argument could also be made that while some of the Mego Figures were "goofy looking"...like Batman for example. Some were really more Comic Book accurate like Mr.Fantastic & the Green Goblin.
The question is: Mego era or Mego like? The initial intent was to make figures that could be displayed with original Mego figures and they would seem to be from the same line. Venture Bros, Twilight Zone, etc. Didn't have any early figures so modern sculpts are fine with those.
I remember seeing someones Flash custom recently and there were so many comments about " I sure hope Mattel makes theirs look like this one!" and I disagreed completely. The head was too modern with an angry expression, giant chin, and somewhat out of scale with the body. It would stick out immediately next to original Megos and I didn't want that at all.
So the new heads have a bit of generic Mego style to them, and I'm ok with that.
I'm with this line of thinking. Our intent has always been to tweak the Megos and improve what we thought were egregious flaws. So, just be clear that when you pick on a sculpt that is clearly a tweaked original, you couch your disappointment in the fact that we went with the original sculpt to begin with. One thing we have no interest in is getting into the "which artist is better" quagmire, unless DC has a very specific or different take on the character and dictates a new approach.

Think if that Aquaman Head Looked like Aparo Drew Him ..., or Even Lopez. Or if that Green Lantern Head looked like Neal Adams Himself Drew Him , and so Forth.
Excellent point BK. And one I've repeated in the past...that if you sculpt these Figures to look like Neal Adams, Aparo, Lopez...since they're all 70's Artists, you would still be keeping with the Mego era.
Mego was a Toy Company AHEAD of it's time in The 70's.
Flash Forward , It's now the Year 2010. Over 35 Years Later.
People are Disapointed with Retro Head Sculpts, Because they do Not Represent Iconic Likenesses to Characters, sich As BBP Stuff Does, Trek or Even The New Universal Monsters. Retro Hero Heads come off as Generic Interpritations of Characters . Thats Fantastic in 1973 ..., But Not in 2010. That's why you will hear complaints, and whatnot . JMO.

Likeness Has Extreme Pull.
I've Never read, or heard a single Complaint with Venture Bro's, Trek, TZ or Universal Monster's. Why ? ... Because the Figures look like the Characters.
I think it's hysterical about the Aquaman sculpt complaints, given that it is the exact same Mego Aquaman head with only the hairstyle and sideburns changed. We changed nothing else.
It's not such a hysterical notion once you take into consideration that Mego's sculpt wasn't all that great to begin with, and the only thing keeping Mego's sculpt from looking too youngish looking was the minimal
hairstyle which Mattel (as you noted) changed, adding more mass
and making it look arguably worse to that complaining contingent you're referencing.
Personally, in the grand scheme of things it's not a big snag in the line
full of wonderful achievements, but since you used the
extreme word "hysterical", I thought I'd shed some light on the
other side.... Mattel has opportunities to hit grandslams
with sculpts, and Aquaman just isn't "that", is what people are noting.

If it doesn't interfere with the Retro theme, I would vote for:
Swivel Biceps
Larger chest but NOT like the goofy Justice League Cartoon guys, goodness no, there is a Space Ghost custom on here somewhere that looks very heroic
More sculpted abs would be fine
Kung-Fu grip/grippy hands, I remember how cool these were on GI Joe even if he was too big...
Fix Superman's flat head
It would be cool if a novice like me could swap hands and maybe feet/shoes but not if it made the hands/feet too loose to be stable.
Right now I just want the waist issue/wobbly legs/hip thrust and the looseness fixed.
Agreed 1000%!!!
Definitely,.... remake Superman's flat head and give him more of a protruding chin. Also, minimize and define Green Lantern's head a wee bit.
I'm EXTREMELY sorry to see I missed this. I was just reading through prior to making comments and I see the ship has sailed.
HOWEVER, I have to thank Doc and Joe and all the members. There is excellent feedback here. Without looking I think the guy who posted photos of the pelvis with the Circles probably resolved my only issue with the bodies, which is that their hips thrust and if you "fly" them, the legs fall.
I haven't looked at these in a while but I also have to vote for Metal Snaps on the costumes. The plastic snaps must go. Or maybe get heavier.
If the hips issue is fixed, I'm personally OK I think. Other fixes would be upgrades and less retro.
No reason they can't juice the chest, arms AND abs though if they are up for that.
Swivel biceps are probably an excellent suggestion as well.
I may post later after I read this but you guys got it goin' on.
Thanks to Joe and Doc and Mattel for soliciting feedback. I was going to make a YouTube video and demonstrate my issues early on but Doc convinced me not to. Therefore I still have 2 of the 8 I that I initially bought.
If they fix the bodies I'll get 1 set of them all and doubles or triples of some. I promise.
Thank you all. These could be great. There is really no excuse for them being inferior to my 30yr old tight, poseable Type 1 Spidey though. Or the Batman and Robin I sold.
I'm very excited to see this thread. Thank you all.
This is all such great news. I do agree with the post above. It will be a shame if the first few waves don't get re-issued with better bodies so they can be as great as future figures. Especially since so many of the early wave characters were DC Comics biggest icons (Batman,Superman,Wonder Woman,
Flash,Green Lantern,Shazam,Green Arrow and Aquaman)
