A pleasant surprise and far less predictable than what I had thought. I like that. Two thumbs up Matty. I'll be getting those.

I think it's just that the formats don't jive up to the era.
IMO Ghost Busters figures should be based on an 80's style of retro figure -- perhaps He Man bodies.
Making Ghost Busters on Mego body's is like making our beloved Mego heroes on MARX Best of the West bodies.
That's the way I see it.
It's a difficult comparison because Superheroes are "evergreen", but I prefer to see it more like Captain Action and Mego as a better evolutionary comparison. I wasn't around for Captain Action, but I think he's damn cool and I collect them now since I discovered the Playing Mantis ones. And Maxx FX was way cool to take the Captain Action concept and put them on a contemporary character Freddy Kruger when I was just getting into scary movies as a youngster (although I get why parents were upset)!Comment

I think these figures are cool and I'd be happy to own them. I prefer the Sinestro Corps outfit to the classic. I guess its all a matter of personal taste. Some will like, some wont.Comment

Star Trek should only be 12" or available as Captain Action sets?
L'il Rascals and Flash Gordon figures should be made of wood?

I have no problem with a Mego-style, Guy GL figure, but having 6 or more GL characters before you tackle Hawkman or Mr. Freeze is poor judgment, IMO.
I'd walk over a million non-Hal GL's to get to a Hawkman.sigpicSWEAR TO ME!Comment

I can't wait for the wooden figures, that will be awesome. Do you think they'll make a Zeus or Perseus figure out of bronze or stone? Now that's what I call Retro!sigpic "It's like you're unravelling a big cable-knit sweater that someone keeps knitting and knitting and knitting and knitting and knitting and knitting..."Comment

I totally agree with that. That is where they screw up. They don't make the core characters before they get into the versions and lesser characters.sigpic "It's like you're unravelling a big cable-knit sweater that someone keeps knitting and knitting and knitting and knitting and knitting and knitting..."Comment

I'm waaay to excited about these. Guy is probably my least favorite GL and ironically probably the GL I have enjoyed the most stories with. I'm a huge Green Lantern fan, so this is fantastic. I have to admit I own more Sinestro action figures than probably any other fictional character ever... Which is a more than a bit odd.Comment

Who says they aren't? These are just easy ones on Matty. Change the head and body color and boom, new character. I see Hawkman or Freeze coming in a regular wave down the road.sigpic WANTED: Boxed, Carded and Kresge Carded WGSHComment

Counting down to the film release, what other GL retro-release are planned?
I'm wondering about villains (Hamond, Black Hand, Evil Star, Gold-Face) or maybe Katma Tui, Tomar Re?WANTED: Dick Grayson SI trousers; gray AJ Mustang horse; vintage RC Batman (Bruce Wayne) head; minty Wolfman tights; mint Black Knight sword; minty Launcelot boots; Lion Rock (pale) Dracula & Mummy heads; Lion Rock Franky squared boots; Wayne Foundation blue furniture; Flash Gordon/Ming (10") unbroken holsters; CHiPs gloved arms; POTA T2 tan body; CTVT/vintage Friar Tuck robes, BBP TZ Burgess Meredith glasses.Comment

I guess my main problem with releasing so many B-listers before tried and true characters like Robin and Joker (etc.) is that I'm not completely sold on the kind of "legs" this line will have. We've all seen Re-Mego attempts like Famous Covers and DC SuperHeroes (and, subsequently Spiderman Classics) kind of fizzle out somewhat quickly because the demand at retail just wasn't there for the long run. Granted, those lines didn't embody the "Mego Spirit" as successfully as the Retro Action line (which would be lost, somewhat, if Mattel tries to make these more realistic).
When the pegs start clogging with characters that most casual buyers haven't heard of (like Cheetah, Captain Cold, Black Adam, and even Shazam, to a degree), the line might start to be in trouble. I love that they are doing these characters (COMPLETELY against modern versions of characters, though) but am worried that the line won't last long enough to fill out the list of A-listers if so many less recognizable characters are clogging the pegs and preventing reorders of newer waves.
On a line like this that feels very tentative and, possibly, temporary, I'd rather they get the A-listers out of the way and then delve into lesser known ones if the line continues. That way, we get all the "must have" characters and anything else ends up being "gravy."Last edited by Delusional B; Jul 23, '10, 5:22 PM.Comment

I'm always baffled why people see the Famous Covers as a "Fail". These are actually what got me back into Mego, and looking back now they are a bit wonky in facial expressions and obviously don't have the "Retro" charm of Megos.
But look at the number and variety of figures that were released compared to other lines (including Mego)!

That is pretty substantial and a fairly impressive line-up of figures that were produced during that time frame. I think there are only a few glaring omissions... Thing, Human Torch, Venom, Punisher, Doctor Strange, Silver Surfer, off the top of my head, but they have a good representation in terms of the classic silver age characters and the modern characters... they even defaulted to the Silver Age with many of them... Iron Man, Vision, Scarlet Witch, Hawkeye, Thor, Falcon etc. I think we're darn lucky they went retro, otherwise we'd be stuck with FORCE WORKS style and other costumes with belts and buckles and pouches and large guns!Comment
