I have been taking apart wave 1 figures to make 2011 prototypes
and what I have noticed is that the bands connecting the legs
to the torso are not tight enough to keep the body from moving
around.

Every Green Arrow I had to strip down (shudder) was not
stretchable at the pelvis. Of course these Arrows were from
December. Once I had some Luthors and Sinestros to ravage,
the assault on GA was halted.

Ok Paul...you got me curious. So I checked out my 2nd GA, the one I haven't altered. He is strung so loosely that he will not stand on his own(I have to lean him against something) and he does slump. You may be right...but I'm wondering if stringing these Bodies tighter will solve the slumping problem?

I didn't want to suggest that it might be a semantics problem, but the key word there is "re-tooled" and of course they aren't going to re-tool them. I'll bet the guy answering the questions was thinking the asker wanted them to be more like the other DC figures and that the asker didn't understand Megos!

I think they need gaskets for one thing. The plastic is too slick and that's why the waist slides to extreme forward or extreme back. I put gaskets in my figures and they stand great. I put them in the leg holes as well and it helps but doesn't quite make the hip connection as tight as I would like.

Gaskets, in conjunction with tighter elastic, would improve the standing problem significantly.

Just thought of something...I haven't messed with my Superman. And He IS strung tightly, but he still slumps...with his Pelvis jutting forward, like he's trying to show off his Manhood.

I Agree with Wolfie.
Everyone I ever Read, is a Complete Joke, That really states Nothing.
They are just Some PR Ramble to Continue the "Allure AND Mystique" of All Thier lines with No Real Absolute Concrete Info , and really Only Keep the Reader and Customer's Still Guessing at the End. I am Begining to think that Grant Morrision Writes them , to be Honest.

True dat.....With all of the OTHER Mego-like releases (which are actually more "Mego-like" as far as body goes) coming out this year, looks like Mattel has actually done me a favor by freeing up cash Now I can persue "collecting 'em all" with Dark Shadows, Twilight Zone, Universal Monsters, etc.

That's very unusual, imo

The figures are GREAT and I think most kids would be attracted to them loose limbs or not.

As adults we push a lot of our hang-ups on kids without even realizing it.

When you can pose a Character in every Position that The Character does whether in Comics, Cartoons or Movies, How Could a Child Not be attracted to that , over something that does not ? ... Let Alone the Endless Vehicles in the Scale.

I haven't purchased any of the figures beyond the first run of Green Arrow, so I haven't really encountered the mentioned super loose and hunching over stringing problems, though even tightly strung, the stringing seemed badly designed and was a bit floppy/wonky on my GA. MY main problem with the legs is the look. Bowlegged with thunder thighs. They look ridiculous on and off the card. Maybe I could deal with them..if they were a western line.

To the folks who have re-strung the Mattel bodies, Does re-stringing improve the bodies ability to hold a pose?

I talked to some action figure vendors at a flea market today (one of which owns a comic book shop that sells a lot of new and vintage action figures). Both know about the Retro action line and the comic shop owner said he lost money trying to sell the ones he had. The consensus was Mattel made them too pricey at wholesale to justify what they have to sell them for at retail. Several mentioned how awkward they posed in the package and no customer wants to pay over $20.00 for a figure that looks " that cheap." They also added a perspective many have not considered - With the economy being so bad, vintage lines are taking a big hit on the market, so collectors who can still afford to buy are investing in the vintage lines while the prices are down, rather than blow money on a new line that has lots of production issues and can be bought considerably less later down the road. Food for thought.
