Bad News Retro-Action Fans (Matty Q&A)

It came late today, but just got in my Mattel Q&A. I asked them about impending changes on the Retro-Action body. You won't like the answer!

Infinite Hollywood July 1st Mattel Q&A

We're gonna be dealing with Retro-Arthritis for some time to come, I guess.

"At the end of the day, the Retro Figures are designed to work like vintage figures and that is half the fun!"

Wow, yeah, I would buy that answer if their body was anywhere near as good as a Mego body made nearly 4 decades ago, but in reality is nothing but junk.

They just jumbled some words in the quote. It should read, "At the end of the day, the Retro Figures are designed to work like half the fun of vintage figures!" Top half, fun. Bottom half, not so much. I keep saying this in the various threads: For me, they are $20 customs bases. For the kids, they're thrashers.

Life goes on, they could be better, but Mattel is gonna do it their way. I've let it go.

I feel the same way. They work great for kids 10 and under(I have two) and are the cheapest custom fodder readily available. Not great but good enough.
“When you say “It’s hard”, it actually means “I’m not strong enough to fight for it”. Stop saying its hard. Think positive!”

I'm a fan of these figures, but his response is too bad. Quality control issues being the #1 gripe about these, makes me wonder how tuned in this fellow really is.

What a smart a55 answer. You know I've liked these for the sole purpose of being able to see them on the shelves and with the thinking for certain that they would care that they are selling a defective product, improve them as any good company would.

If that guy replied that way to me in a bar, he would not know what happened to him.

If they go back to using the pelvis that was on the GA bodies, then I can deal with the 'we ain't changing a thing' answer. If they continue to hammer on with the wave 1 bodies that slump and have elastic that gives way with 3 months of play time, then they will have consumer groups chasing them for selling defective items.

Not sure I agree with the wave 1 bod being the same as playing with a vintage toy. More than one time at our house at the end of the day, Mego Hulk went back into the toybox while Matty Supes headed over to the infirmary.

So basically, Mattel knows there's a problem with the bodies, they simply don't care enough to do something about it. That's how I interpret that answer

The Mattel Guy should have said..."they are meant to be left in the Package, that way you won't notice what Crap the Bodies really are"!

yea...it's safe to say that was a cocky answer.
He is right in saying so though - look at the customizing fodder and stuff we get to do.
Does that give excuse to the problems, no.
Do they justify a $20 price tag, no.
If these retailed for $12.99, 99% of the gripes on these boards would probably disappear.

Oh well. The bodies hasn't affected my boys playing with them one little bit, nor would it stop me when I was a kid.

Us adults are the fussy ones b/c we're not collecting to play with them. There are enough awesome custom bodies out there these days to satisfy us adults and still give us our dream of having a mego Flash and we even get to throw our own custom preferences in there too.

I hope Retro-Action has a very, very long run!

Translation: "Your dumb enough to buy these inferior figures for $20.00 AND spend more money to change the body. Why do we need to do anything?" That's EXACTLY what they said.

It also sounds like this is the first he's heard of the criticism. "Oh, I'll be sure to pass that along".

Yea, I agree. That's how I see it. I have pretty much supported this line and kinda got irritated at all the bashing, but man, when they pretty much tell you that they don't give a ****, you gotta stop or your basically the moron they perceive you to be. imo
