The biggest problem with Doctor Who *is* the BBC. That's why it took 16 years for a new version of the show to get on the air, ( cancelled in 1989-revived in 2005), and the 1996 FOX tv movie of the week nearly never got off the ground. I have never dealt with them but these guys re-define the meaning of comatose. It must be a British thing. They want to make money off Doctor Who but they are either embarassed by it or just don't care.
Underground Toys/Character Options is making a mint off their 5" line. They have possibly made more characters than Playmates did when they owned the Star Trek liscence in the 1990's. They released the first 3 classic Doctors, with terrific likenesses, in 2-packs at $40 each. That's an outrageous amount to ask for any action figures in that size. It took me a year before I caved in and bought them seeing the price would not come down but niether did they sell out. If DW Megos got the green-light I'm sure they would charge more for the 5" figures thinking they were losing money to a competing line.
I have seen very little of DW in the US in Toys R Us. Their customers are mainly mail-order. I've been pre-ordering over the web to make sure I get the ones I really want. Those of you who can say your toy-stores stock DW figures are lucky. In NY they are pretty rare. I only saw the Colin Baker Regeneration variant in 1 TRU here and that's it.
