Hey you should mark the first one cast or even say the first 10. Then maybe have a contest between those purchasing one for the opportunity of it to be a first cast or something. I'm just thinking of something to juice it up. Just a few thoughts.Comment

Get it to $100 and under and you'll sell a decent number (dozens I'd guess). $250 and you are likely looking at single digits or perhaps into the teens. Not a criticism, but just my opinion. I still really appreciate the effort though. Looking forward to seeing one in person.

No doubt and dead on the mark.Get it to $100 and under and you'll sell a decent number (dozens I'd guess). $250 and you are likely looking at single digits or perhaps into the teens. At $125-$175 mark - I'd prolly end up buying two boxed sharks eventually.
Push the $250 mark...I could only buy one and it would be a serious purchase instead of an impluse buy.
Besides, lower cost, less upfront profit. More sales = Long-term profit.
Plus, not only is there the Aquaman vs Shark kit...there are several adaptations the shark could be used for. Whip up a Quinn figure, make the box package something you can re-use as an Orca Playset and walla, instant JAWS playset that would sell well at $125-$175 mark.Comment

For the amount of skill and effort that is being put into this, $250 is a reasonable price. Do I think many will sell for that price... no. I also don't think they are doing this solely to make money. That being said, they can't just give it away either.
Within our limited community, there really isn't a way to make money on a project of this scope. However, it is worth it in a lot of other ways. We probably saw the same thing with Ben's book. It's a masterpiece, but I doubt he made any money off of it (maybe enough to cover his costs, but certainly not enough to cover his time). Plus, if they're able to turn this shark project into other projects... yahoo.
I applaud everybody in this community that make things the rest of us want (Cast-a-Way, EMCE, ZICA, etc) usually at a financial loss. It really is a labor of love.Last edited by boss; May 20, '11, 10:53 AM.Fresh, not from concentrate.Comment

Agreed. Not that the effort put forth and the item isn't worth it but the way I look at it is why pay out around $250 (ballpark) for a reproduction item that is only for display when I can take the same amount (plus more) and put it towards the real deal someday or even purchase an actual carded or boxed Mego figure or playset for the same amount if not cheaper. The shark and box look phenomenal but again it's nothing more than a repro in the end. Mego purists want noting to do with repro items while the Mego collectors that do are usually wanting to spend a little less or else they would go with the original item. Not all collectors mind you but I'd say a fair amount of them. I do wish you much success with it though!Get it to $100 and under and you'll sell a decent number (dozens I'd guess). $250 and you are likely looking at single digits or perhaps into the teens. The last one I saw on Ebay (boxed and is the only one I've ever seen boxed on Ebay in the 12 years I've been a member) late last year went for $5495 Mint in Box and the box was about a condition 7 at best. I contacted the seller and paid her $300 to take over 150 photos of the box and insert (which I ultimately ended up not using since I got better more accurate images from Geoffdude off this forum that were used to make the repro box). I bought my Great White Shark loose and in condition 7 at best over 7 - 8 years ago off Ebay for $626 and that was a bargain I thought at the time.
I'd be curious to see what others have experienced as far as price on a MIB or loose set. It is an extremely rare set to find in a box these days and they command a great deal of money from what I have seen. But that's just my two cents.
