Pretty sure that's Mezco, not NECA. NECA figures are around $30, Mezco's are smaller, 6 inch scale, a lot more detail and run $90-$190. They're quite different in that regard.

I'm sure someone will tell me I'm talking out my butt or whatever, but here's my take on Mego. Marty wasn't ever particularly interested in doing a small boutique brand (which is why he never really got involved much with previous revivals that were Mego in all but name) and releasing 8 inch figures finally made sense to him financially after other brands were doing it, FTC was making big moves and he got a lot of praise of documentaries like Toys That Made Us.

He was able to leverage the name value of the brand to get backing, slower at first, but then hit a huge tidal wave and was accumulating licenses like wild. I'm sure there was some thrill and rush to it. I don't think it was ever all that successful, but it appeared quite successful because they were burning through waves and licenses and getting new partners on board, etc. etc. But I always got the feeling that Marty and his partners were just looking to get Mego up as a brand and then pivot to other items that would be more successful than cheap 8 inch figures.

As political malfeasance tanked the economy and global trade and profit, things started to quickly catch up to Mego (now a much smaller entity) and attempts to pivot to other things like the disastrous 2XL went bust. Now they're barely a company to speak of, with one deal in place that guarantees a couple small boutique releases a year (albeit with a major license) and not much else. One assumes in 2 years, the economy will recover (fingers crossed the American public isn't as stupid) but whether Mego will have anything left by that point, or if it will be ripe for a comeback again remain inconclusive.

I'm also sure they're monitoring and trying to come up with other things even now, but I definitely get the vibe that they're far more dormant and disinterested in rolling out 8 inch figures than anyone here would like.

I think Mego is not dead, I bet there are a lot of potential projects firing, The Disney thing can grow in include new IPs. Maybe Walmart will pick up some Horror assortments. Have faith. I do wish the 2XL would have been thought through, AI is on most smart phones and the technology is still fleshing out, so the 2XL really didn't make sense for consumers to buy, yet anyway. Just my thoughts. Mego should stick to true and tried with success, 8 inch retro style. Maybe reinvent pocket Superheros, or a rebranded Micronaughts line- call it something else and add some new features - just stay away from tech stuff for now.

I agree that Mego isn't totally dead, I was agreeing with the point that any current problems stem from the turmoil in the world, and how it intersects with economics and commerce. I believe we will get the Marvel sets, and maybe that can expand, but as far as DC wave 19, heartbreak lies that way. I also think that any financial partners they had ,did want to expand into electronics. When they realized that maybe it wouldn't work, they got queasy stomachs. Any partners and backers have to realize they are a niche brand. I think for now, aside from Marvel/Disney, they will take a breather. Maybe Dr Mego can sell the new head sculpture and the costumes on his website (if they produced any in bulk). As far as I know, CTVT never had any Marvel licenses, yet they sell Iron Man and Cap suits. They just call them hero costumes, and seem to get away with it. That's how I put together IM and Cap almost two years ago, way before the Disney sets.

So my life long wish of Mego making a Neal Adams Batman, is well and truly dead. Definitely disappointing news to hear...
