Bummer! Hopefully this isn't the end, but only a temporary roadblock for future Mego goodness. I was really looking forward to Hawkman.

Aw man, this is extremely disappointing to read. I know it's now been two years since wave 19 was shown, and the longer time went on, the more concerning it became that we were hearing nothing. I would've been happy to end the line at that wave plus that also-mentioned round of the replicas of the four initial Super Gals, and then called it a day.
Frankly, it may actually be worse to have been expecting those figures, than to have never known about or seen them at all.Comment

The Spectre is the one that hurts the most. When I was little my grandmother sewed a white suit, mask and green cape and put it on a spare Superman figure. Robin trunks and shoes rounded it out. I was so looking forward to getting an official Spectre, after all these years.Comment

I would have been happy with Wave 19 and Supergals wave and ending with that. Since they waited 2 years to tell us about this when I have posted several times with questions about it . If the Disney Marvel Megos get cancelled after wave 3 we might not get an official annoucement until 2028-2029. The lack of communication is questionable to me. NECA and Playmates have been very open that they are losing the TMNT license, and it's a big deal. But they were very upfront with the fans that it's ending. NECA confirmed it at SDCC, and Playmates released the info months ago. You can communicate with your fan base, even if it's bad news.Comment

I think context matters. Mego's revival began with a Target deal that came with compromises. The initial character lineup was driven largely by what Target wanted, not necessarily what the core fan base was asking for. At the same time, much of the general public had little familiarity with the brand. Even so, that partnership gave Mego the opportunity it needed to reestablish itself and begin building toward commercial relevance.
Once the Target deal ended, the real challenge began. Mego had to secure new retail partners while balancing licensing costs, character availability, financing, and retailer demand. It's a constant juggling act, and every decision has to make business sense to keep the line alive. When an investment doesn't pay off, the company feels it. Add the pandemic and the broader economic pressures of recent years, and it's remarkable they've accomplished what they have. The fact that Mego is still producing figures today is a testament to the determination of Marty, Bruce, and Paul.
Ultimately, every successful release helps fund future opportunities. It doesn't always result in the characters every fan hopes for, but that's the reality of operating a niche licensed toy company. Supporting the products that do make it to market gives Mego the best chance to keep growing and expanding its lineup.

I think the NECA release is interesting—not because of its presentation, but because the design itself isn't new. In fact, it's been done twice before. Hasbro used this same approach with both its DC and Marvel licenses, combining cloth costumes with plastic gloves and boots that were permanently affixed to the body with articulated joints. I'm sure many people remember the Signature Series for Marvel and the Silver Age Series for DC, both of which were sold primarily through Target. These are very derivative of those old lines. Maybe the success of Mezco in a similar vein has caused them to revisit this idea for the 1/9th scale figures? But I agree with you this is less about replicating Mego so much as looking around for a different approach.

Mego is in it's own vibe because it is the O.G. to the rest of this . They should at least communicate with customers about wave 19 cancelled while we continue
posting here and Facebook. Mcfarlane Toys has let customers know that DC won't be at retail in 2027 and Neca with TMNT LossComment

It sucks to hear this. I hope that last wave comes out eventually. But mostly, I hope everything is okay with the company as a whole, and especially for Paul, who has always seemed like a truly good and decent guy.Comment

They seem to be doing good with Disney Marvel sets and Disney store handling the sales. Maybe they can do something with DC but more likely
Figures Toys can get it back because they still have and sell most parts to DC heads , suits boots etc.Comment

I agree. I would buy 4 packs of DC or I would buy FTC figures if they started again. Love the ones I bought so far from them.
All options are good as long as we get more figures. We are spoiled after so much in the last 20 some odd years and always want more.
Was hoping for another Spidey 4 pack from Disney with the new Spidey movie release but...

Pretty sure that's Mezco, not NECA. NECA figures are around $30, Mezco's are smaller, 6 inch scale, a lot more detail and run $90-$190. They're quite different in that regard.
I'm sure someone will tell me I'm talking out my butt or whatever, but here's my take on Mego. Marty wasn't ever particularly interested in doing a small boutique brand (which is why he never really got involved much with previous revivals that were Mego in all but name) and releasing 8 inch figures finally made sense to him financially after other brands were doing it, FTC was making big moves and he got a lot of praise of documentaries like Toys That Made Us.
He was able to leverage the name value of the brand to get backing, slower at first, but then hit a huge tidal wave and was accumulating licenses like wild. I'm sure there was some thrill and rush to it. I don't think it was ever all that successful, but it appeared quite successful because they were burning through waves and licenses and getting new partners on board, etc. etc. But I always got the feeling that Marty and his partners were just looking to get Mego up as a brand and then pivot to other items that would be more successful than cheap 8 inch figures.
As political malfeasance tanked the economy and global trade and profit, things started to quickly catch up to Mego (now a much smaller entity) and attempts to pivot to other things like the disastrous 2XL went bust. Now they're barely a company to speak of, with one deal in place that guarantees a couple small boutique releases a year (albeit with a major license) and not much else. One assumes in 2 years, the economy will recover (fingers crossed the American public isn't as stupid) but whether Mego will have anything left by that point, or if it will be ripe for a comeback again remain inconclusive.
I'm also sure they're monitoring and trying to come up with other things even now, but I definitely get the vibe that they're far more dormant and disinterested in rolling out 8 inch figures than anyone here would like.
