I wonder why no one's ever made them in this scale? When you look at other lines, they seem great: more detail than the 1/18 scale and take up less space than 1/6. A few examples:
Half of Star Wars' playability is vehicles. There have been larger-scale SW figure only lines (Unleashed), but they bombed at retail.
Yeah, they didn't do too well, did they? I had a friend that collected them, and he said he liked them because they were statues, as opposed to action figures. I never bought any just for that same reason.
I think since they were the first 4" blockbuster figures and people have collected them since childhood it's almost looked upon as blasphemy to make them bigger than 4". Another issue is when they release stuff, they do it in large amounts. I have so much space being used up from 4" figures, I can't imagine having 6-7" figures taking up space for the Star Wars line.
I have personally zero interest in SW figures in that scale. Vehicles are too important to SW and are almost characters themselves. A SW line without a Landspeeder, Tie Fighter, X-Wing, etc is pointless, to me.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...
I would be all in for 6" Star Wars figures. The lack of vehicles and playsets certainly has never hurt the 12" line. Both Kenner and now Sideshow have made hundreds of 12" figures.
Below are prototypes of a new 6" line supposedly in development...no word on a release date yet, but that Stormtrooper is incredible, as is the Kenner style card.
I think there's always been an attitude that SW figures would be played with, and the 3.5" format is good for that.... vehicles, playsets and such. Even when they came back in the 90's there was still a playability concern; hence the weird accessories. By the time of the first new movie technology had advanced to the point you could put collector item level detail into a 3.5" fig.

I might be mistaken, but from the comments sections of sites where I read up on these, I think they're Takara "Real Action Doll" figures from Japan. They look great, but I think the price is like $100-150 US. If they were 1/4 that price, I'd definitely get all the main guys.
I could definitely be wrong, Gordo--it's just what I was reading. It doesn't mean those guys know what they're talking about. It does look like them, though.
New toys are on a bigger scale and will focus on characters from the original trilogy
