Great commercial! You can really see how improved paint apps on the faces would have made these figures look so much better.

That would explain why many of us did not see some of these ads. Mego simply wasn't buying spots in some of our markets.
I can't remember where it was (probably one of the later Mego catalogs, or a listing in a toy trade magazine) but I seem to remember seeing a list of their ad buys by regional market, and I think you may be right.

In any case, I can say with a fair amount of confidence that the ad featuring my beloved Marx Undersea Adventure set that was recently posted here (which I babbled on about at length), never actually aired, since it seems Mego never got around to releasing their own version of it. So, there may have been some other Mego ads from the late '70s/early '80s period that shared a similar fate.

Wow. Just wow. I never knew Clown Arounds existed until coming here. And that's from a guy who had a ton of Smurfs (hey, my Mom managed a Hallmark store, so sue me).

These are probably not high on the "must have" list of Universal Monster toy diehards.

Not much in the way of carded Clown Around on eBay. Are they rare?

What year did Monster clowns come out? Another fun commercial with crazy-good picture quality.

I have a very clear picture in my mind of being at Eaton's and seeing AT LEAST a 10-12 foot section of Eagle Force. I loved them, and wanted my mom to buy me them, but Star Wars was still tops to me so I ended up with a couple of Star Wars that trip. I remember later in the year being at Eaton's and seeing so many of the same Eagle Force toys sitting with clearance stickers on them, almost like a display that was barely touched. These toys bombed, I mean big time! We all know this was basically Mego with their last big shot, but somehow they got Eaton's involved and they paid dearly I'm sure. It's too bad because they are very cool toys and the commercials are terrific!

Why oh why did Mego decide to make these guys gold? They look like the military arm of Solid Gold.

Awesome! Going back over the Mego commercials I noticed that the 1979 version I have shows a prototype of these communicators. This 1980 (final?) version appears to show the real deal.
