It’s actually a promo for the *second* KISS comic (in MARVEL SUPER SPECIAL #5), art by John Romita Jr.

That's what I get for posting quickly when I'm supposed to be working. It says it right there in the ad!

Apologies for the formatting this week. Obviously a heinous cyber attack by our enemies and nothing for which either Brian or I are directly responsible.

Sorry about not getting Svengoolie Theater done this week, Dad has to go back to the hospital out of town so I haven't had the chance to finish this week.

This question may be a couple of weeks late, but did anyone else buy any of the Atlas figures from Walmart?

A couple/few weeks ago, I did receive the Grim Ghost figure that I ordered (only after having a prior order for the same figure unilaterally cancelled by Walmart about a month beforehand). I haven't pulled it out of the box yet, but I definitely will. That said, the figure looks great. But the $30 price dissuaded me from ordering the other Atlas figures.

I had known of Atlas Comics for many years, and about 15 years ago I bought a bunch of Atlas comics on ebay when they were very inexpensive. The original allure for me was Howard Chaykin's 'The Scorpion,' and, to a lesser extent, Steve Ditko's 'The Destructor.' But I ultimately enjoyed 'Planet of the Vampires' the most after 'The Scorpion,' and also thought the first issue of 'The Phoenix' was intriguing. I still hope to get at least The Phoenix mego figure eventually if/when the price is reduced and I happen to see that. But the photos of The Phoenix mego figure on walmart.com looked a little underwhelming to me - more like a friendly young father in his 30s wearing a unitard and sneakers than the angry, reluctant super hero from the comic book.

I have a list of favourite Atlas characters, and yeah, this wave missed most of them, but I thought they looked great and fun. The Hands of the Dragon may be my favourite, he's just such a great-looking figure, and well, I dig the chop-socky.

The 'Mint Off Card' You Tube video profiling the Hands of the Dragon figure dramatically enhanced my enthusiasm about it, actually. I really enjoyed that, despite having limited interest in the figure going in. But I've already read his lone comic book appearance. So the included comic book wasn't quite enough for me personally to overcome the $30 price point. (It looks like maybe other people felt similarly to me because the Grim Ghost figure (which I did buy) appears to be sold out now on walmart.com, while the other three Atlas Mego figures remain available.)

With this in mind, I noted the reference in last week's newsletter that other upcoming Mego figures will also be packaged and priced in a similar way, including, if I read this newsletter item correctly, the 1989 Batman. I was a little disappointed to read this, but I can understand it from a business perspective. And I would likely buy the Batman and Matrix figures even at that higher price. So it probably makes sense for Mego commercially.

Perhaps I missed it, but I wish that Steven Paul/new Atlas had gone into a little more detail publicly about their hopes/plans for this roster of Atlas characters/properties. The only character I saw individual news about was Devilina. But the Mego figure was dressed dramatically differently from the Vampirella 'homage' that the original Atlas character appeared to be. (Uniquely, as the other three Mego figures appeared to to me be straight adaptations of the originals from 1975.) I can totally understand that update after 50 years, but it left me wondering what, beyond the character's outfit, might've been changed for the Paramount movie project that was previously announced?

Thanks for keeping the newsletter going gents. Oh, and that Strange New Worlds character is Tawny Newsome as Mariner from Lower Decks. Her and Boilmler (Jack Quaid) made a live-action apperance last season, played by their voice actors!
