    I'm calling it.
Based on the drawing I bet the Alfred costume is going to be a modified joker costume. Sleeveless jumpsuit printed with the pants/shirt/vest and a seperate jacket to cover it all up.
I wish I'd thought of that.

I wanted Scarecrow, but I will be happy to get Alfred.

People are saying Alfred is a "good choice" for release at this point. I don't see what makes that statement a truism. It's a bald guy in a tux. I think it was a "poor" choice... especially with all the mystery hype. Can you imagine the difference in reaction if this figure would have been Scarecrow or Mr. Freeze instead of corporation kitbash #3?

I agree completely. I would have liked to have seen another hero or villain. Way too early in this line for civilians. I could live without ever getting an Alfred or Gordon. Let's have the Creeper or Catman.

If they hold off on civilians until wave 10, after all the major baddies and hero variations are done, the line will tank for sure. Can you imagine a wave with nothing but Alfred, Gordon, Barbara and someone else selling?

Better to slip in a civilian here and there. And Alfred is far more important to the Batman mythos than Scarecrow. These aren't going to be sold at retail (as far as I know), these are for collectors. So while a kid may not want an old English guy in a tux, a diehard Batman fan (like myself) definitely does.

I would have loved to have Scarecrow or Mr. Freeze, but they went with Alfred. The reason I see this as a good thing, it means that the might do more non-superhero characters. This could mean down the road that we get a Lois Lane.

One of the first customs I did to extend the Batman line was Jim Gordon. I have yet to do a Mr. Freeze in 8" scale. I'd love to have one, but the Jim Gordons and Alfred Pennyworths have an appeal for me at least equal to the second tier villains. I think Alfred was a good choice, they can only do so many completely new products at once.

I knew Alfred was in wave 3 for a while and also know a little more that I wish I could share, but to say I'm excited for waves 4, 5 and 6 would be an understatement!! Hold on to your socks!

No idea why people are upset that we're getting Alfred at this point in time. It's not like we're getting Dr. Leslie Thompkins. Or Thomas and Martha Wayne.

They only version of Thomas Wayne I would want is him in his original Halloween Bat-Man outfit.

Alfred is a worthy addition to the Batman lineup. I for one will be buying it when it comes out.

But (at the risk of addressing what may have been a rhetorical statement), of course other civilians outside of the more notable are an impossibility, even 30 waves in. So... here we are with Alfred.

To clue you in on "why" I'm "upset" (probably too strong a word), it's because I think this move is a squandered opportunity to give this line a strong kickstart as far as new characters.

And, I'm not upset in that I (like all the Alfred-supporters here) like the IDEA of an Alfred Mego. I'm just upset that I'm in the minority of pointing out the questionable action of the release at this point.... it's the FIRST dang new character in the first true repro WGSH redux era.

That's a real spin doctor on any "anti-Alfred as first new Mego" sentiment. To imply that ANYone would think that "Wave 11 all civilians" is a good idea is an odd implication (to say the least).

A more realistic scenario would be to imply that the "Alfred-puzzled" might think it a good idea to *never* release Al, Gordon or Babs or any other civilian in favor of the line being *totally* comprised of superheroes and supervillains... but even that is, I believe, an unrealistic implication to put on detractors of this lukewarm choice for first new character.

You misinterpreted my post. And it makes sense that you did. The "little kid" angle is the first scenario that would come to my mind as well. But, that wasn't my motivation in pooh-poohing a bald tux-wearer. My post, if anything "little kid", had more to do with the "little kid" in all us collectors. I guarantee that overall, for collectors, releasing Scarecrow, Mr. Freeze, Poison Ivy et al in Wave 3 as the anticipated "Mystery" figure would comparatively make the *actual* release- Alfred- look like a complete dud.

I'd think most of us here WANT an Alfred. But it just seems like a weak choice at this juncture.

If ANY supervillain was released to round out Wave 3 instead of Alfred, the reaction here would be off the charts compared to what is going on now with the old English guy in a tux.

Speaking of this new line "tanking"... Mattel's Retro line tanked after only a few waves because of bad decisions... I don't want to see that happen to THIS line.

You take it for granted this line is going to make it to 10 waves... after the short-lived Mattell line I'd never make that assumption. What I *am* doing is trying to raise awareness of what appears to be turn-offs as far as decision making on Figures part. If Alfred turns out to be a homerun choice, I'll be happy to eat my words.
