Great openers. I've been to that Wayne toy show many times and knew he wasn't going to find anything really special there. In fact while the guy he bought the stuff is there very month, when I was going he had the same stuff overpriced month after month never selling.
The gold record bit reminded a lot of story I was told by a girl I know who worked on a photo shoot with him and agreed to go out with him. On this "date" Gene brought her to the mall and proceeded to buy her....a copy of his book.

Well,at least he can sell the View-Master Reel to the other guy and make back some of his money.

I have family members who worked at the Marx factory. I have heard many stories about that damn landfill.
Looking for Green Arrow accessories, Doctor Who Sonic Screwdriver, and Japanese Popy Megos (Battle Cossack and France, Battle of the Planets, Kamen Rider, Ultraman) and World Heroes figures

White haired guy with glasses? If so: HAHAHA.

I see him at the auction in Jersey I got to. Unfortunately we both bid on a lot of the same stuff and he just keeps going and going and going if he wants that item. Me and some other were wondering how he sells stuff for a profit when he buys it for triple of what it's worth sometimes.

But at the same time, he doesn't seem like a bad guy and it's safe to say he does it without any malice.

I've been collecting for over 20 years. Buying at meets, flea markets, yard sales, garage sales, and the usual stomping grounds where vintage is found. As a young boy, I went door-to-door asking if people had unwanted comics. What people need to keep in mind is that what we see on camera are shortened sequences of footage and editing choices. Sometimes, those choices are made purely for entertainment, and this extends to the kind of choices made by people who just don't know the collecting culture well enough to interpret segments which will expose raw nerves. I've spoken with Jordan by email and telephone and I believe him to be a collector at heart who happens to also be in the business of selling cool stuff. What I particularly appreciate about the show is the focus on collectibles, which gives the audience a snapshot of historical significance.

The big three (Pawn Stars/American Pickers/Storage Wars) have a way of dealing with finds in collectible categories which usually showcases the irrationality of adults collecting items intended for kids, and highlights or looks at them with little or no depth, choosing to expose the off-beat aspects in a manner that is counter-intuitive to the reasons why people think they are cool enough to collect in the first place. Case in point, the MEGO find (or I should say "salted" fiind) on Storage Wars - especially the way they kept hinting at "geeks" drooling over "dolls." I'm not sure those words were used, but that's how I interpreted their reactions.

To be honest, I would rather these shows skipped over collectible finds because it's always the same nonsense - someone finds a long box of comics in a storage locker and thinks they struck it rich. I will say the only exception in recent times was when American Pickers found that AF 15, but even then, they skipped over an FF 1 and Hulk 1 in that showcase, which to me would just as nice a catch as the AF 15. The Pawn Stars episode which featured the TMNT comics hardly dignifies a mention here, but the evaluation they gave was ridiculously high.

@Jordan - I wouldn't worry too much about the comments, but I can understand your reaction when people go too far. I've found the one common thread all collecting hobbies share is the reactions people have towards others, especially when others do well in their collecting pursuits. Call it jealousy or envy - combined with the cutthroat nature of marketing vintage stuff, and you get this unusual dynamic where grown adults take shots at each other because they disagree or diverge on practices. Bottom line, I believe we should all calibrate our moral and ethical compasses in everything we do and not just buying/selling, but I can't think of a single time when I shared a find I made where there wasn't one or two people that who were ready to twist the facts to suit their mood.

                            Some fun episodes, as always.

Jordan, I take it your friend is going to be on the show more often now? Fine with me. You guys have a nice rapport back and forth going there. And just like the reason Batman was given Robin, it gives you someone to talk to.

I knew Blythe was scary, but not THAT scary. Brrr...

The KISS episode really had me laughing the whole time because there was so much wrong with the staging of it. Gene is such a big collecter of his own product, Jordan couldn't possibly trip over something he didn't have unless it was predetermined. Especially with him buying the obvious things that most fans would suspect Gene has. And with Jordan stating he's not really a KISS collector, how would he know the common from the uncommon? But the most glaring error was the trade at the end. Gene pulled out a replica Rock N Roll Over gold record that they sell online for $175.00. And I doubt his auto turns that into $1,600.00 by a long shot. So Jordan falls on the sword for a cheap autograph after spending $1,100.00 on a hard to find remote control vehicle? No way. Eh, I know so much has to be done for entertainment's sake and therefore you need to check your disbelief button at the door for some of this stuff. But that was stretching it. I prefer the basic hunts where I'm more predisposed to accept what I'm seeing. Once again, I realize this is all for entertainment sake. But I do believe credibility in the trades should be kept on the up and up so misinformation is not filtered into the marketplace. I think that is a fair expectation. And I did find a Canadian version of that van on Ebay. The box is dinged up, but the product is mint.
