I saved a Fonzie from a flea market this past summer. It was $10 and I just couldn't leave it there. Before that it was a Glinda for $3.
I miss hitting the antique stores with Rob and Benjamin while I was out in CA. Nothing like spending all day looking for Megos and having In and Out for lunch!!

Thift Stores: Still finding Megos!

I've had a couple of nice thrift store hits in the past few years but no megos. I did hit a lionrock figure in nice shape which I got the hat for from Joe at the meet last year. My top five thrift store toy hits were a boxed Ultra Magnus transformer G1 original for $10.00. Flipped it for my Mego Wonder Woman and $10.00 cash. A small hat circus elephant footless Pez dispenser for $1.49, sold on ebay for $60.00. A mint POTF A-wing fighter, traded for a newly removed from card Invisible Woman, dead mint but zombie head and a very nice Falcon with a broken leg which I swapped out for a replacement I had but the store owner didn't. And my two best, a baggie containing about 80 transformers accessories with heads, fists, and feet for almost every combiner figure plus guns and all sorts of G1 original stuff. Cost was $2.99. I can't even calculate the amount I got for this bag but it was in the hundreds mostly trade. Complete transformers were going for huge dollars at the times and they were popular in the stores in the area. Finally a bag of 8 complete transformer cassettes that were dead mint except for one laserbeak with a broken piece on the head. All but one went for low to mid twenties but one broke the $30.00 mark so made about $170 plus I still have the laser beak waiting for a replacement head somewhere in a box of future sales/trade stuff. Everyone of these was found at a store called Savers, Canadian members know it as Value Village I believe. They're teamed with the Big Brothers/Big Sisters organization and donate a portion of all sales to that charity so it's good all around. There is one near my house so I hit it regularly once or twice a week. I've pulled about 300 items in the last 5 or 6 years out of there that I've flipped in trade or sale for more than I paid. Usually in bunches, redlines, T-cats, He-man, Wrestling stuff, etc. Kinda like hunting without all the camo suits and blood and guts.Leave a comment:

I haven't found any Megos in the wild but I found a sweet Big Jim deal at a local flea market once: A clothed Big Jim, (missing a hand) Camper w/ all the gear (except the boat and oar) tent w/ all the gear for (get this) $12! I've also found Dr. Steel and Big Jeff (nude) for $2 each at this place that used to be in WI called "Rummage-O-Rama". Man I miss that place! All kinds of good stuff there!Leave a comment:

Good deals to be had...
As I noted when I joined, the main reason I got back into Megos was the great deal I got at a local 'antique mall'. I haggled and got Thor, Spidey, Green Arrow, Speedy, Batmobile, Batcopter, Captain Americar, Batbike, Hall of Justice, Falcon, and a handful of other figures for a NICE price.
Most of the loose figures were missing some accessories but it got me goin'.
I used to hit the thrift stores a LOT and found 60's-early 90's stuff regularly. I got a Voltron, Universal toys, Godzilla, micronauts, He-men galore, a few megos, and hot wheels going waaaay back. This was just a few months ago.
Since the Salvation Army stopped carrying toys due to the lead issue, pickings have been mighty slim, tho'.
I found some G.I. Joe toys at Goodwill, but that's not my bag. Getting harder and harder but some good items are there if you don't mind being consistant.

I haven't seen any megos at thrift stores in 20 years.
At fleamarkets and antique stores it is a lot more common to see them and it is a fun find but as stated earlier in this thread they want mint prices for trashed figures.Leave a comment:

The only Megos I've seen over the last few years were at flea markets. John Boy Walton wearing only his jeans for $20, and a Spidey for about 10. Had to replace Spidey's left arm and now have a nice figure. As for John Boy... Well, I'm sure someone bought him eventually.Leave a comment:

I use to find Megos at flea markets alot in the past. You would have the guys with the booths with nothing but toys that have them and of course they want to charge you for toy show prices. The best dealers to get them off of are the little old ladies with booths. I got a nude Hutch once for 2 bucks. Lady who was selling him was trying to tell me he was from Dukes of Hazzard.Another lady I bought from had one of those bible figures in an Action Jackson fishing outfit. Picked that one up for a dollar.

Last year I found a naked 1 1/2 legged batman for $1 at a flea market lol. And there was a guy who sold there that would have nude or trashed outfits for $10 each. I bought a couple that had good heads.
But the best Mego in the wild find I've had was a Mego Cher doll with a HTF dress for $3 at the local Goodwill, I flipped it on ebay and got $40 out of her.
I've also found nice loose Red Line Hot Wheels for .50 each, 80's GI Joe figures for .50 each at the same goodwill. Silverton is small enough that only a few locals and myself know what to look for in toys so there's not the large crowd the bigger towns get looking through the toysLeave a comment:

I was in a thrift/junk store in Oklahoma City late last week and I passed on a loose Spock ($8), loose Kirk (no price), loose John Boy ($35), and a loose Kirk and Scotty ($16 each), all fair-to-dirty. I bought some other stuff, but was really tempted to go back and get them all! I decided, that since I have them all I would pass, though... let Saildog or one of the other local Megoheads "discover" them if they wanted. I did pick up a loose dirty Lone Ranger for $3 to get the boots.
Finding Megos in the wild... priceless.
The place is called Memory Market at 920 N. May in OKC. Seems this place has Megos a lot, but they're never in very good condition, and they're usually the more common ones.

I found a Knight Rider Michael Knight figure (from 1984? 86?) last year at a Salvation Army thrift. That's the oldest figure I've found, but I only stop in the place once every month or two.Leave a comment:

This is what ALL fleamarketeers do. You should see what these guys are asking for beat up records. They look it up in the book and then ask the near mint price for a trashed record. On the flipside there are oodles of obscure valuable records not in their books and those they ask a dollar for. Guess which ones I end up buying?Leave a comment:

They will quote the price guides, but not take into account condition. Although I've realized that some of them expect you to haggle.Leave a comment:
