Thift Stores: Still finding Megos!

I'm simply astounded that in the past two weeks I've found a Mego Hulk and a couple of Charlies Angels (not Mego, but of the same era) at a Thrift store for a couple of bucks. They are hardly mint, but still intact and in good condition. I'm always amazed when things that old turn up in places like that for so cheap.

I don't think I've found a Mego or similar era figure at a Garage Sale, Flea Market or Thrist Store since the nineties.

I found a mint Robin mego at a thrift last year for $5. So they do turn up from time to time. But yeah, I used to find more of them back in the 90's as well, usually shoved in one of those bags for $1.99 with a bunch of other toys.

I'm on the thrift scene on an almost daily basis and vintage toys are just tough to turn up, period. Any thing pre 1990 is scarce. Anything pre 1980 is really scarce and anything pre 1970 is pretty rare......

Like every one else said, the last time I saw Mego at a thrift store was like 1991. All I find at thrift stores are new action men and spiderman the movie figures, although I oddly always find bags of 60's barbies, too bad there not worth money.

Damn! The only Mego find I had in the past 6 years was a naked Lion Rock figure I turned into Bruce Banner thanks to Chris DVM, Doc Mego, and James Gallo. So far I look but I find nothing, only way I get what I need is off of ebay. Honestly, the only thing I have been hunting for are the CHiPS gunbelts and bodies here and there. But I sure would love to find an awesome mego peice in a thrift store once, at least once.

I go to Pasadena to the Rose Bowl swapmeet, Ive found a few mego WGSH but sometimes you get people that want up to 60 bucks for something not even complete or broken.

That's really been my experience- when I do find a Mego in the wild, its usually way overpriced and pretty beat up. I don't have nearly the thrift store regularity as someone like Matt, so that may explain my experience, also.

That was my experience at a Toy Show this weekend. Flea Markets as well.

This is what ALL fleamarketeers do. You should see what these guys are asking for beat up records. They look it up in the book and then ask the near mint price for a trashed record. On the flipside there are oodles of obscure valuable records not in their books and those they ask a dollar for. Guess which ones I end up buying?

I found a Knight Rider Michael Knight figure (from 1984? 86?) last year at a Salvation Army thrift. That's the oldest figure I've found, but I only stop in the place once every month or two.

I was in a thrift/junk store in Oklahoma City late last week and I passed on a loose Spock ($8), loose Kirk (no price), loose John Boy ($35), and a loose Kirk and Scotty ($16 each), all fair-to-dirty. I bought some other stuff, but was really tempted to go back and get them all! I decided, that since I have them all I would pass, though... let Saildog or one of the other local Megoheads "discover" them if they wanted. I did pick up a loose dirty Lone Ranger for $3 to get the boots.

Finding Megos in the wild... priceless.

The place is called Memory Market at 920 N. May in OKC. Seems this place has Megos a lot, but they're never in very good condition, and they're usually the more common ones.

Well it's not mego related but I found 10 original carded he man figures, so i am sure megos will turn up eventually

Last year I found a naked 1 1/2 legged batman for $1 at a flea market lol. And there was a guy who sold there that would have nude or trashed outfits for $10 each. I bought a couple that had good heads.

But the best Mego in the wild find I've had was a Mego Cher doll with a HTF dress for $3 at the local Goodwill, I flipped it on ebay and got $40 out of her.

I've also found nice loose Red Line Hot Wheels for .50 each, 80's GI Joe figures for .50 each at the same goodwill. Silverton is small enough that only a few locals and myself know what to look for in toys so there's not the large crowd the bigger towns get looking through the toys
