My first Mego was a complete surprise. i didn't even know what a Mego was. We were going on our first vacation and Mom surprised me at Kmart with a solid box Superman to keep me busy on the long car drive. Me and Supes were Ozarks bound.
My first Mego was RC Batman. I don't remember the box style.
We got him at Nichols, a discount chain store in Wooster, OH. My aunt had given me birthday $$ and it was October, I think I was 5. I guess I must have looked at others in wave 1, I remember Mom showing me boxes & asking me questions.
I was so excited, because Batman '66 was my whole world then , and I asked Dad in the car returning home what the sticker on his suit was--I remember him trying to define "symbol" for me so I could grasp it and finally comparing it to the Bat-Signal. I was fascinated by the costume components.
That was the beginning of a Mego torrent that continued that Christmas & lasted until Star Wars derailed me.
Megos were--still are--the most wonderful toys: detailed, playable, great accessories & playsets.
