THAT IS THE MOST AMAZING THING I HAVE EVER SEEN!!!!

You guys made my year with this one. Phenomenal. I would have killed for this one...even with the crows nest/french fry basket sick bay. Amazing.....Stupendous...Colossal.........cool even!!

What I find most interesting is all this Trek stuff was discussed in 1977. During the summer/fall of 77', Paramount had green lit the soon to be aborted Phase II tv series. Mego obviously would know about this, and I'm betting a lot of the product discussion may have been generated by an attempt to build the Trek license up to capitalize on the "sure thing" sales a newly announced Trek series would have brought at the time.

Does anyone know the EXACT timing on the presentation of these? If it was late enough in 77 that they missed the 78 toy fair, its very probable that lack of retailer interest didnt quash them, but rather the switch from a tv show to a film caused Mego to stick them on the backburner for a year. When the movie line fizzled, so did this stuff.

I'm also intrigued by the Comic Action Hero comment. We need to follow up on that somehow!? Were there prototypes made? or by the time the talking turned into action, was the movie far enough along that the TMP figures were the only 3 3/4" figures done. I know I have brought this up before, and I've pestered everyone I can think of who has ties to old Mego staff to inquire further on the matter (sorry guys!)....Back when Star Trek II came out, Entertainment Tonight did a retrospective on Star Trek, along with a sneak peek of the movie, and a story on merchandising. During the merchandising story, they had a splash pic of Trek merchandise, and ...I will never forget this...in the bottom right hand corner was a carded 3 3/4" Scotty figure in a red tunic and pants. I've always assumed (although been told it was not the case) that Mego had a planned Trek II line of figures coming out, but in light of this revelation, its entirely possible that figure was a carded CAH original series/Phase II prototype!!??

    Man, I'm wired now!!!!!

      Wonderful!!

It's still got the off model Mego charm while being more like what what seen in the show.

Scotty in Sick Bay is actually a disguised Klingon who wants to try to knock off Spock while McCoy has one of his Mint Jullipes in his office (real Scotty is on the bridge)

            Soooo... pretty.

Although I'm irritated that you have to go UP to get to sickbay when clearly the bridge was top floor of the elevator.

              Wow! Quite a find.

I keep thinking... somebody's job was to build that! Talk about "dream jobs"...

IMO this has so much more play value/ potential than the bridge playset. Sweet find.

That is a beautiful prototype--too bad it was never produced.

I dearly miss the days of seeing playsets offered with figure lines...

That's a whole lot of awesome. Too bad it didn't get made.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

Good... good God. I'm almost in tears.

What a great find! I've been wanting to scratch-build a bridge like that forever, minus the crow's nest ("Planet ho! Planet ho!")... with the, um... sick bay in it (?) But that's a really gorgeous playset.

Thanks to all those responsible for sharing this with us. You should quote Gene Hackman in Superman, and ask if it gives us a shudder of electricity to be in the same room with you. Yes. Yes it does.

Oh man, that is the coolest thing ever, just look at that sick bay. And detail on the bridge and the console are mindblowing. Such a shame this never got made.
Many thanks to Mr. Baiera for sharing all this incredible stuff with us.
